Do you run Studebaker with the 1's on Friday?

RAC has said that Studebaker is getting the first shot at replacing Hali for game 1. So do you split time witht he 1's between Hali and Studebaker? Play just Hali or what? How would you handle it if you were RAC?

A sacrifice has to be made somewhere.

You either have Studebaker getting pushed around at the line and abused in coverage or you have the secondary getting abused in coverage.

Take your pick. Personally, I think our patchwork secondary might be able to survive if we get REALLY physical with Atlanta's receivers. Plus, we don't know that Flowers can't play that game. If he does, we'll be just fine.

If Flowers is 100% and plays.....I would have no problem letting Berry play closer to the LOS more.

Studebaker is our second best LBer in coverage. I'm not sure why you are killing the guy. He is good in run support. Who is going to get physical with Julio Jones? That seems like a horrible idea. Also, Flowers isn't going to take Roddy White out of the game by any means. He is Ryan's go to guy. They have amazing timing together. We can put Berry in the box but then you leave Gonzalez one on one with Elam. When they go three wide, you have Arenas versus Harry Douglas and that might be the biggest weakness they exploit. Douglas is very underrated. We have to bring the bltiz. We need Houston and Belcher to really step up in this game. Most importantly, we need to run the ball down their throats and control the clock. With the crowd noise, we'll get at least four sacks. Sam Baker is terrible.

He's so solid that he's been replaced.
Did you read his post? He was saying he's not that solid and often loses the point of attack due to his size.

"As solid as they come", however, he ain't. He's out of position with fair frequency and doesn't have the mass to fight off blockers. If Stude's out there a lot and I'm the Falcons, I absolutely attack him with the running game. He just doesn't have the mass to hold the point of attack.

There's no good answer to the problem; losing Hali just flat sucks. Studebaker may end up the best option we have, but he most assuredly isn't someone that's going to be an asset out there. He'll be a liability for most of the game.

The bottom line is that we're going to have to protect the hell out of whoever we put out there. And ultimately I really think we should be flipping Houston over to Hali's spot if for no other reason than the fact that it gets the better athlete and harder hitter over to the spot that Lewis/his replacement will be. Berry will be needed to protect Stude/Sheffield.

As to the question posed - I'd hardly give Hali any more pre-season reps at all. He doesn't need him and the defense needs to figure out how its going to deal with Week 1.
I hear you but disagree. You put Studebaker on the left side with Flowers and Berry and he'll be fine. He's fast and is good against the run. He sheds blocks as well as anyone else. Most OLBs are not as big as Houston and Hali. Also, Jackson was the #1 3-4 DE against the run last year so that's got to count for something. I completely agree about Houston on the right side.

You should go back and watch Studebaker against Arizona. He stood out the other night when I watched it. He was seriously one of our best players in that game. He was good on special teams and at LOLB. The guy is a damn good back up and he could start for someone. I haven't seen the second half of St. Louis yet but will watch it tonight. I will be sure to watch him.

studebaker is awful

cant contain the run
cant rush the passer
cant pass cover

he does special teams well. no good talent for anything at a 34 OLBer spot. Poor man's slower Mike Vrabel.

He's not that bad and he is a back up. We wouldn't have beaten Pittsburgh in 2009 without him. He makes some plays every year and he doesn't play that much.

I might be wrong but I thought Studebaker was good in coverage.

Here you go.... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1...backers/page/4

Yeah, it's Bleacher Report but they have him as the 62nd best OLB in the NFL. That's pretty good considering there are 64 starting OLBs and he's a back up.

I just don't get the hate for some guys. We have gone so long without good depth. Guys like Studebaker, Brown, and Elam are what we are going to rely on to be good. Remember how terrible we were at safety and running back last year?

Greg Wesley is the greatest safety ever.....because he picked off Tom Brady 3 times in one game!
