Tony G to the Packers??
Peter King thinks it would be a great match. I cant blame Tony for jumping this sinking ship if he so decides....
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200.../week16/5.html 9. I think, speaking of Green Bay's tight-end shortcomings, I've got a marriage made in free-agency heaven: The Packers, with Brett Favre coming back for one more year (if he does) and with $28.4 million to spend under the salary cap, Green Bay should make its number one priority in the off-season convincing Tony Gonzalez to come north as the highest-paid tight end in NFL history. Here's why: The Green Bay tight ends have killed the Pack offense all season, and Gonzalez is the most productive available tight end in recent history. Don't worry about his age (30); he's missed two games due to injury in 10 NFL seasons. Don't worry about declining production; at 27, 28, 29 and now at 30, he's had at least 70 catches and at least 850 yards receiving in each season. I realize this is not GM Ted Thompson's way, spending big on free-agents. But this should be his exception. He should look at Packer history, and see what a big signing Reggie White was in 1993 by Ron Wolf. Gonzalez isn't the same kind of "statement'' signing, but his impact on the team could be as big in 2007 as White's was around that time. |

I think if Tony G leaves, he'll want to go to a team with a shot at the Super Bowl. I don't think he'll want to play one year with Favre and then have to break in a new QB while the team never makes the playoffs.

If they franchise him, he won't have the luxury of making this decision. Just a little food for thought.

The question becomes do you franchise Tony this year or wait and franchise LJ next year?

that article is totally ridiculous, Peter King just wants to think he actually impacts personnel decisions, much like THEESMAN from last night pleading with the coaches of the NFL to "see it my way" idiot

http://www.nflpa.com/CBA/CBA_Extension.aspx Basically it says the Franchise tag can only be applied once per year to one player. That the franchise tag contract is only for one year. So you could franchise one player like LJ or Tony G until they get too old to play. You basically can "own" one player. Yeah they will get the average of top 5 money but thats usually going to be a cut in pay for anyone worthy of being slapped with this label by an NFL team.

Tony wants to win. If Tony were to leave (not likely), he would not voluntarily go to a bottom-feeder of a team like the Packers.
