Brandon Marshall already probably called up Bowe and said run, run as far away as you can.

There are, at best, only a handful of truly creative and innovative coordinators.

The rest are subject to the talent at hand, and can only put that talent in the best position to succeed.

And the bottom line is, if you don't have a QB, then you aren't going to have a lot of success.

Daboll not a sexy hire for #Chiefs, but Matt Cassel has had his best 2 NFL seasons in offenses just like his. Pioli going all in on Cassel.

So give me an explanation as to what makes you feel that Daboll is the next Mike McCarthy.

Again - I'm not interested in hearing why he failed elsewhere. Someone tell me why he's going to succeed here.

Phobia seems to believe it's because he gets hired a lot. As though the fact that Wade Phillips kept getting hired as a head coach was evidence that he was a good head coach. Others seem to believe it's because the Dolphins, with one of the 10 most talented WRs in the league as well as a RB with gamebreaker speed and agility, weren't in the bottom 10% of the league...just the bottom 25%.

And then go ahead and try to convince me that Scott Pioli would have EVER hired this guy had he not coached Matt Cassel in New England.

I don't have any comments on this yet because I know so little of this guy.

Why does everyone think this guy sucks so bad already?

Is there anything positive anyone sees with him?

How or why would Pioli and Crennel pick someone so bad with all the pressure to perform?

How have his offenses performed?

I thought Miami's "O" had a pretty good year: Reggie Bush had 1,000 yards, they went 6-3 after a horrible start, had a weak QB, middle of the pack stats.

Maybe he was the last man standing after their 8-9 first choices all went elsewhere

since it's clear Miami has a whole new coaching staff in there, they are going all in on a QB upgrade. You know, like a team should do after an awful season in the NFL. But anyway,

I can't wait to see what Miami cast-off we get out of either Henne/Moore when either (or both) get cut and that's the "competition" we bring in for Mark Castle

He's going to have a worse QB in Kansas City than he had in Miami. There's simply no reason to believe he's suddenly going to be a more effective coordinator.

I am not trying to convince anyone that it is a great hire.

White Whale in the following quoted post expresses my feeling about it far better than I do.

All of you people freaking out about this are the same exact reeruns who say you NEED a franchise QB. Derp dee derp, but OC's who are shackled with terrible QB's are bad, and ones who take jobs with great QB's are smart?

Am I the ONLY person who sees the rather stupid circular logic that kind of assessment is based around?

Now here's why I don't like it: Pioli did the safe thing AGAIN. He hired what he was familiar with. Here's another thing that pisses me off: I think this has a lot to do with Matt Cassel. We bring in another Earhardt-Perkins guy because it's the only offense Cassel knows and he apparently struggled with the minor changes in philosophy between NE, Haley, and Weis (all of whom run the same system!). Not only that, but because the system changes so little it doesn't create a learning curve that would expose Cassel's lack of actual ability in a competition with another QB.

The positive in this is that it would require the least transition because it's the same system.

The problem is that his background won't excite anyone. Still though, fans over-rate coordinators. Talent is more important. Get a better QB. As long as he understands 'run on 3rd and short" and 'pass on 3rd and long", it's up to the talent to execute. I'm sick of us blaming coordinators instead of fixing the talent issues. We did it with the defense during the DV years. We need a better QB, and until we get one we'll be cycling through OC's.

I don't like the hire, but it's not so much an indictment on Daboll's abilities, which I think are hard to discern. I don't like it because it's exactly who I expected us to hire. Safe and predictable. Blah.

Does any OC get a say in the starting QB?

As I said earlier, if he blindly accepts Cassel, then he's commiting career suicide.

If he has any ambition, he won't be just a yes man as it relates to Cassel.

If he is, then in a couple of years, we get to see a clean sweep of the whole thing.

In the hiring process, sure; at least in a sense.

He's going to get asked about Cassel during that interview. And if in that interview he says something like "Matt Cassel is a well below average NFL quarterback", he's simply not going to get hired.

The reason this guy was hired is because he didn't say that.

No, an OC isn't going to be the reason for a QB change, but an OC isn't going to get hired into this organization if he dares believe one is necessary.
