Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

It's only a matter of time before Albert is gone and Joeckel/Fisher move to LT. It may happen within 24 hours or it may happen in a year, but he is, without a doubt, on his way out the door.

I'm here. Been working on all day and runnin sales meetings. Just got home about an hour later than I wanted.

The Chiefs are still talking to teams about moving up. Like I said last night, the whole thing was a ploy to get the Dolphins to trade for #1 pick.

Fisher or Jordan made the most sense. Now, we see what happens when the clock goes live.

Here's what I'm thinking:

The Chiefs think they can get a king's ransom of Round 1 comes and goes and the Dolphins fail to land a left tackle.

If they do, the Chiefs will just keep Albert for a year and bookend him with Fisher.

It's a win-win for the Chiefs. But it does beg the question of what happens next year.

I am good with just keeping Albert and seeing how he plays this year. If he has a bad back again- no long term contract. With Hudon coming back our Oline looks to be pretty awesome with Fisher and Albert.

So keep Albert for 1 meaningless year and let him walk and get a round 3 comp pick (maybe) in 2015 over trading Albert and netting at least a mid 2nd this year.

Sounds like a Chiefs solution.

Albert is gone if we pick a OT #1. There's no ****ing way they are making that pick with their sights on him playing RT in the future.

I just don't think Miami is going to cough up their high 2nd and 50 million bucks to get bad back Albert? IF they do I hope we get a great pick at that spot not the next Eddie freemen.
