It's unfortunate that the Chiefs didn't do anything in the off-season to build upon Smith's tremendous performance in the playoffs.

The team desperately needs another playmaker, either at WR or TE, and there were a couple of great options of the former to bring in that could have had a big-time impact.

Opportunities lost when you have an in-his-prime QB. The window is short. We paid a win-now price with the trade for Smith, and then the team sits on its hands.

Illogical as all ****.

Kinda like losing the 28 point lead in the playoffs. As a Chiefs fan did you really expect anything different? Speaking as a Chiefs fan it couldn't of been any different.

Agreed...not sure why there wasn't urgency to get a a playmaking WR in and signed and then draft another. Need 2 WR's minimum to help and 2 rookies aren't going to be good enough

Don't worry, we'll have some late round comp picks to build with.

In 2015.

We haven't really used free agency, though?

I'm not going to get too butthurt until we see what happens in the draft. WR in Rd. 1 would forgive a lot for me.

Nope. They won't be enough. n00b WRs can take a little bit to acclimate to the league, and the Chiefs' schedule is going to be unforgiving.

Tough to read the Smith trade now as much more than a directive to put asses in the seats.

Even with a few high priced agents, we are probably still long shots.

And none of this even matters if berry, Houston, and Smith aren't extended. If the chiefs handle those three things, that's a successful offseason

1. sign Miles Austin, he's probably the best remaining out on the market, and hope he can play more than a handfull of games.

2. draft TE Eric Ebron 1st rd pick. Dude's a beast, and will only get faster and stronger.

3. draft RB/KR/WR Dri Archer in the 3rd. This is our new Dexter McCluster, but this guy is lightning fast and MUCH quicker than DMC.

4. Everything else should go Oline/Secondary/Dline-front7 whether its addressed by FA or draft.

If you are "grading free agency", whatever the significance of that is, I don't see how you could give the team anything other than an F. They lost numerous starters and signed no one.

Of course, most of we who follow the team don't feel like any of them are big losses - except Schwartz and Albert, but we knew Albert as leaving and the person who the team sees as his replacement is on the roster.

Given the cap situation and who was available, I'm not sure we ever could have made a meaningful splash in free agency or if we should have done so.

I don't think losing Albert is that big of a deal, I bet that he doesn't justify his pay down in Miami. He had trouble staying on the field. I predict he will miss 1/3 of his future games.

you're lucky if you can get anything meaningful out of them in the first two years. I'm not sure everyone realizes just how much of an exception bowe's early success was. We'd be fortunate to get 2/3 of that out of a late first pick now, not to mention a 3rd or later. Course even if we did get that we fickle-ass fans would find some goofy reason to run him out of town in 5 years.

Best chance we probably have left is that someone already on the roster breaks out. No clue who that might be, of course...
