According to Fox Sports, the Baltimore Ravens have given an ultimatum to wide receiver Anquan Boldin: Take a pay cut or get released Tuesday.

The Ravens are looking to reduce Boldin's $7.5 million salary-cap number to increase their chances of re-signing free-agent linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and safety Ed Reed. Boldin, who played a big part in Baltimore's Super Bowl title run, is scheduled to earn $6 million in 2013.

The Ravens were expected to keep Boldin after the team didn't have to use the franchise tag on quarterback Joe Flacco, who signed a six-year, $120.6 million deal.

In the playoffs, Boldin caught 22 passes for 380 yards receiving (95 yards per game) and four touchdowns. He has led Baltimore in receiving yards in each of the past three seasons since being traded from Arizona.

Boldin, 32, said last month that he would retire if he was cut by the Ravens. Since the Ravens won the Super Bowl, linebacker Ray Lewis and center Matt Birk have retired and Baltimore has released guard Bobbie Williams.

I realize Boldin said he would retire but so did Brett Faaaaaahvre and Randy Moss. Boldin would be 100x the receiver Baldwin is and it would not cost any draft pics.

Boldin isn't worth anything with that salary. He's dime a dozen. Good player, but you can do better. We had no need for Anquan Boldin on our team.

Alex Smiths and Anquan Boldins bread and butter are the same types of plays. Having Bowe and Boldin would have been about as good of a win now move as we could ave hoped for.

You're right about one thing, though...he wouldn't have came to KC in a million years.

Adding him would have given us two similar players. To compliment Bowe we need more of a speed guy that can stretch the field.

That said the 49'ers are raping people on trades this year...
