*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

Bar should rest across your clavicles which is going to put some pressure on your neck. All the weight should be on your clavicles though.

Yeah. Arms parallel, back straight, shoulders rolled forward. I tend to want to grip the bar instead of it just resting in my fingertips.

I know a few guys that have the Rogue racks and really like them. Here are some guys that I know that started this company and it's really good equipment. http://axomperformance.com/

I've had a couple of power racks at home and really liked them, but I prefer the cage opposed to the wall mounts.

Yeah i don't really see any racks on their site, just the wall mount ones. This is what I'm looking at right now, and looking to get the dip attachment, glute-ham bench and maybe reverse hyper. EliteFTS has a cheaper glute-ham so I would be able to get the reverse hyper.

http://www.roguefitness.com/r6-power-rack.php

I may look at the R4 also, and see how much i save if i piece it together.

I've got a big ass empty room in our new house and I'm thinking about some equipment. We have no basement so do you think having just thick rubber flooring over the carpet would be ok to do deadlifts on without cracking the floor?

I'd really just need a squat rack, bench and barbell to do most of my workouts. I check some of the links later but keep me posted for those of you who have home gyms on some deals.

I've still gotta convince the wife about this idea.

Not sure how that would hold up with the weight on the floor, guess depending on the subfloor. Those rubber mats are pretty sturdy. Use your garage!

I've had home gyms a few times and they are great for a while, but never lasts for me. I get more motivated going somewhere, especially if you don't have a long term workout partner.

Rare to have basements in Phoenix or I would have went that route.

And by stating I live in Phoenix, you can guess the hottest part of the house I don't want to lift in!

I also get motivation from seeing others lift at the gym. That's a good point.

A little late on my weekly check-in. Last week I gained 3 pounds, back up to 368. I kept at it though, riding my stationary bike every day for an hour and started adding a lot of biking to and from work, about 8 miles each way. Food intake was good, too.

Anyways, I'm at 360 now, an 8 pound loss from last Monday and 5 down from my low weight.

Pretty pumped.

Good job.

Still struggling with shin splints. Although very minor since I stay away from running. My PT test is on Monday. Hoping my shins can hold up then it's low impact for a month. I'm down 20 lbs since early March. Should be more if I would eat healthier. My wife definitely notices my muscles now, especially my triceps. It's too bad it hasn't translated to her wanting the D more.

First week of diet. Down from 201 to 196. Not too pleased. But, I haven't done any cardio and was still on a maintenance lifting program, so I wasn't exerting myself there, either.

Hopefully the next two weeks go better.

Give it to her anyway

Wear the wraps for your PT. Definitely ice the **** out of them every day from now until then.

I bought some ace bandages and ran one down to keep the ice from burning my skin, and then got some soft packs from Wal-Mart and wraped those bitches tight as hell on there with another ace bandage. That did a hell of a lot better job than a bag of ice or even the soft pack laid over my shin. Getting that compression on there really gets the cold down deep. You'll look like the Frankenstein monster, but getting the cold down deep is important.

Shin Splints are da debbil.
