Whats funny is Clay is a big stat guy. If the Chiefs traded for Young in 91 he would be bitching.

I'd love to hear about GoChiefs, and his extensive viewing knowledge of Steve Young.

I was getting ready to ask him if he's watched him or if he's saying that because he won a Super Bowl.

Anyone who considers themselves a rabid fan of the NFL and is over the age of 25 should know a few things about Steve Young. Steve Young is not permitted to be cited in arguments defending Alex Smith. It makes NO sense.

Steve Young was good enough to replace a LEGEND.
Alex Smith was good enough to BE replaced by a n00b. **** off with any and all Steve Young arguments, asshole true fans.

While it seems a minor point, age matters a great deal in terms of the analysis; it's a big part of the reason why the Alex Cassel trade was so ****ing stupid in '09. |

And FYI, I never said "it's never happened."
Sure, a few QBs, like Gannon, have improved later in their careers (not Steve Young, because he had already proven he could play at a high level). But, through 75 years, it's RARELY happened. So rarely, that the logical conclusion is that it probably won't happen, especially with a guy like Alex Smith who has played so much and proven what he is.

I think the upside for Alex Smith is not Steve Young.
It's Rich Gannon. |

Unequivocally stating that Alex Smith (or any player) can't continue to ascend after a certain age is just outright dumb. George Foreman won the heavyweight championship of the world at age 45. |

I think it's Brad Johnson, because Alex Smith isn't going to be a league MVP, nor throw for 4000+ yards, ever. EVER.

Alex Smith isn't improving from "game manager" to "gunslinger." No way. No how. That's a quantum ****ing leap. That's what we need from this guy.

I cannot imagine a scenario in which Andy Reid and John Dorsey stand behind a QB that continually puts up sub-50 QB ratings and leads this team into the dirt. I can't. |
