Chiefs sign Kendrell Bell (ESPN Insider)

According to ESPN Insider, from the NFL Rumor Central:

Mar. 8 - Linebacker Kendrell Bell and the Chiefs have agreed to a multi-year deal that includes $10 million in guarantees. The Eagles were also interested in Bell, but stopped pursuing him when they re-signed Jeremiah Trotter.

Bell, 26, is coming off a season in which he was limited to three games because of a recurring groin injury. He underwent surgery in October to repair a sports hernia. Bell was the NFL's defensive rookie of the year in 2001.

I like the effort to get it done. I'm still hoping for another key defensive signing with the other hole to be filled via the draft.

In 2003, Bell had 100 tackles, 5 sacks, 1 Int, and 3 passes defended. His rookie season was awesome too (Won Defensive Rookie of the Year award). He had 83 tackles and 9 sacks.

Bell is a monster! I have always wanted him or a player like him since we lost DT. If he stays healthy (which he believes he is) he will make a very good addition.

Now we just need a CB or two!

Well, it's a step in the right direction. He's a good player when healthy.

Now, let's at a minimum add a #1 corner. Hopefully another LB too.

I would love for KC to fix their LBer corps. I'm just saying that I don't think it will happen...Do any of you? I'd love to have Hartwell, but I think they will spend their money on a CB. Frankly, they need TWO!

Wow ... not bad for a team with a cheap-assed owner and incompetent GM.

Acutally, I was more of a Hartwell kinda guy (fewer injury concernts), but Bell is young and an immediate upgrade.

Now ... trade for Surtain or sign Law to a performance-laiden contract and I'll be pleased with the FA period.

Then either draft Rolle, James or trade up for Williams and I'll be freaking estatic.

The 2001 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Bell originally entered the NFL as a second-round selection (39th overall) of Pittsburgh. He earned a Pro Bowl invitation in his inaugural pro campaign with the Steelers after producing 88 tackles (74 solo), 9.0 sacks (-84.0 yards) and a pair of forced fumbles. He was also a second-team All-Pro selection by the Associated Press in 2001 and was named the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Month in both October and November of that year.

The Augusta, Georgia native enjoyed his best all-around pro season in 2003. That year he was named an alternate to the Pro Bowl after racking up 108 tackles (88 solo) to rank second on the squad. He also accumulated 5.0 sacks (-36.0 yards), an interception, three passes defensed and a forced fumble.
Methinks he don't suck that bad, and he's young. I'm happy, for now. Next bring on Hartwell and Law...
