So? Junior Hemingway....

Seems like the guy is quite the buzz on the twitter updates from the guys out watching training camp....

Just curious on what people's impressions are on the guy? Good or Bad- as I didn't follow him at all in Michigan, and he was rather under the radar as our 7th rounder & practice squad guy last year if I'm not mistaken?

Discuss...

I want him and Wylie to get every opportunity to show what they've got.

Seems to me like he may not have burning speed, he does seem to do well with his route running and his change of direction is a + and may be a good reciever to run the double moves and stop-n-go moves?

Maybe some people that watched B1G football or Mich fans can weigh in? I'm just a bit curious because while I haven't seen him eyes on- but it does seem like everyone giving camp updates has taken notice.

He was really good in college at catching Denards crappy throws. I feel like he excelled in catching the ball in traffic. I think he sticks and sees the field some.

i was mad when he didnt make the team last year. he is a good reciever. he was handicapped by playing in a option system, or maybe thats an advantage because he can block like a monster.

I think he has the capacity to be very, very good, but he doesn't have a prototypical receiver body type. He's got more of a runningback build. At least he did at Michigan. He's definitely got gamebreaking ability, he's deceptively fast, but he'll take some coaching.

He is 6' 1" 225
There are a lot of WR's in this league that are 6'0" or shorter.
Yeah, he is a notch below Bowe and Baldwin but if he has the passion to be a great WR and works at it... His body size will not hold him back. He is plenty big enough.

I wasn't intending that to come across as a negative. Basically I was just mentioning that when you look at him, he looks like a running back. He's not a small guy at all. I think it's actually a good thing, he's really solidly built.

I think I mentioned that he's deceptively fast. He's a 4.5 guy that, at least in college, played like he had 4.4 speed, on the rare occasions where he had well-thrown passes to work with and an avenue to accelerate away from the defense. He made some insane catches (he had to with Denard Robinson throwing to him...), and as others have mentioned he was good in traffic and blocked well. The only thing I would wonder about is his route running, but it's more of a "they ran a shitty system, he had a shitty QB that should've been a HB, and I think he probably had shitty coaching" than a "dude can't run routes" comment.

This vid shows him off pretty well:

I almost think of him like he's the anti-Dex.

20-yard and 60-yard shuttles
In the "short shuttle," players straddle a yard line, run 5 yards in one direction, then 10 yards in the other direction, then 5 yards back to their original starting position. They must touch the ground at each stop except the last.

In the "long shuttle," players run 5 yards, then back to the starting point, then run 10 yards and back to the starting spot, then 15 yards and back to the starting spot, again touching the ground at each stop but the last.

With running backs, quickness is king. A back's burst can be measured through the shuttle run. The Titans' Javon Ringer is a good example of a player who drew interest because of his performance in the shuttle run. Ringer didn't run as fast as some other backs in the 40 at the 2009 combine, but his quickness negated that score and Tennessee fell in love.

» Top 20-yard shuttle results at combine since 2006 | 60-yard shuttle

3-cone drill
This drill sets cones five yards apart, forming a right angle. Players run back and forth between the first two cones, touching the ground near both. Then they run around the second cone, weave inside the third cone and around the outside of both top cones back to the stating point. Fluid completion of this drill is a sight to see for any coach or scout.

The shuttles and the 3-cone drill display the athleticism crucial to being a quality football player. The speed of the game at the pro level is such that fluid lateral movement and the ability to quickly change direction are critical. In some cases, good times in this drill can trump poor 40 times when it comes to how coaches view certain prospects.
So, not straight away burner speed, but he does seem to test out as a guy that moves very well and lose very little speed when changing directions- I think with his size and weight he could be a quality target as he seems to be rather sure-handed, and a great possession+ guy which fits right into Smith's wheelhouse since he tends to throw short to intermediate routes as a majority.
