IIRC, it basically was stick DT out there to sack the passer... that's about it. Let DT get after the QB.

Technically it was a 3-4, but DT mostly lined up with his hand on the ground so it looked a lot like a 4-3. It basically allowed DT to freelance.

This is the correct answer.

It was a floating LB position. DT lined up where ever he wanted. DT was a great talent as a player. But he was no defensive coordinator. The team was more effective without it.

The idea might work wit the right player. But when DT played it he became completely one dimmensional. All he wanted to do was rush the passer.

Are you familiar with the box & 1 defense in basketball?

Same concept. DT was the 1.

It was a 3-4 hybrid that put DT's hand on the ground wherever he wanted on the line, most frequently from the edges.

Ironically in 1995 and 1997, DT only had 8 and 9.5 sacks. I remember there were alot of people at the time that didnt think DT was very good when he lined up in the Falcon.

Yeah. I think the concept was great and played to DT's strengths. But it didn't work out well for the front 3 and DT spent a lot of time injured while the Falcon was deployed. Pellom McDaniels wasn't a very good backup for DT either. Who would have been?

Whats funny is, he had some of his biggest sack seasons before Gunther ever came to KC. Who was our D-Coordinator in the early 90's? Dave Adolph??

Yeah. I'm not sure Gunther had a chance to really work out the Falcon defense. If he had pursued it another year, maybe they'd have worked out some of the weaknesses but somebody put the kibash to the Falcon.
