Food everyone else loves, but you think is overrated

Just thinking about foods that everyone else seems to think is the greatest thing ever, and you just don't get...

Me: Nutella. I'd never tried it until today when someone at the grocery store had samples of those little snack packs. So I tried it. It's not bad, but it's certainly overrated.

So I'm trying to think of other things like this. What do you have for me?

OK, my entry.. "A great single malt Scotch." No matter where it's made, how expensive it is, the history of the barrel that was forcefully drafted into service to make it taste less bad - Scotch blows. Much like whiskey.. Straight, on the rocks, with a dash of water....no matter how it's just not good. At best it's a status symbol. I can only think of one good use for it and that's putting it into water from a source you're not sure about in hopes that it kills any bacteria and parasites that might kill you via the shits.

See, I'm sure others will disagree...

You're drinking "well" whiskey then. Crown and water is a great scotch whiskey blend, hell crown and a splash of sprite is the bees knees. But if I just wanted to get drunk, I'd be downing tequila

Negative.

I've tried Crown. I've tried some single malt aged stuff. I've currently got most of a bottle of small batch from Louisville. I don't drink at bars, only at home. So in my quest to like scotch, I've bought some really good stuff.

And I haven't been drunk in close to a decade, so I'm not drinking to get drunk.

I'm not going to say the Five Guys is overpriced when compared to the cost of producing a single order of burger and fries on a stand-alone basis, but I will say that it's overpriced based upon quality and competition.

Crown is in no way Scotch. It is a Canadian Whiskey blend.

Give me a good single barrel bourbon any day over Crown.

Oh I have to have raw onion too. It has to be white onion--not purple. Those go better in salads.

I only will eat white cheddar as well. But I used Havarti yesterday--cause it's what I had from a huge package left from Costo. I don't really eat cheeseburgers anymore though. Just burgers, cooked medium--and price is way up there including on the organic beef.

I cook a LOT--and a lot of gourmet too. Entertain fairly often.

I do cook Italian but not as much as what I grew up with. I expanded beyond that, after avoiding pasta in rebellion for years after leaving home. Make a great fettucine alfredo in various ways.

I will confess, though, when I started adding Italian again, my mother nearly dropped dead when she saw me use sauce from a jar. It's just that particular sauce tasted like our Nona's. Of course I doctored it with fresh garlic and basil too. I just didn't have the time back then to make a sauce all day or just didn't like too. Since I've spent plenty of time making other things. I prefer to try new things.

I do make meatballs though, because my daughter loves them as well as others. I don't just use ground beef, I also use ground pork.

Any kind of seafood.

Shrimp stands out as the most overrated though. Oh and sushi. I'll never understand it.

You won't to eat it again anyway, if you see reports with photos of what Fukushima has done to Pacific shrimp or other seafood from that ocean.
