Way too high for either of those guys, IMO. Those are 2nd round talents.

I think Ford can play and will play well. I think Hali is open to renegotiate and take a fairly substantial hit. If Orchard or Mauldin becomes a true 'need' it will be because we took 2 firsts for him and could use one of those on a replacement. If you're going to have a year to draft a pass rusher, this is probably a good one to do it - there are a ton.

If you lose Houston, it's probably to a team in the 8-14 range (most have the cap space to do some damage). At that point your guy is almost certainly Dupree.

And if Houston just flat says "**** it", doesn't get a sheet but won't sign the tender (note: this will absolutely, positively, 100% not happen) then you still roll with Hali and Ford on your edges and stick with BPA in the draft. Those two guys aren't even close, IMO. At worst, I'd take Eli Harold and even then I just don't think that's a great pick (though defensible).

Try to trade back to the end of the 1st round and pick up La'el Collins. Fixes up at least one guard position.

Use the extra pick to get a WR and a DB in the 2nd round.

Clemmings wouldn't be a horrible pick..even if he is a whole lot raw.

Actually, after watching him at the combine and games, I've dumped him as a potential for the Chiefs.

Horrible footwork on the edge. His kick slide drill at the Combine was the worst I've ever seen, especially on the right side. It was bad.

I think he's a guard only prospect and only for power schemes. I don't think he's got the quickness to be very effective in a pulling/trapping type of line.

La'el is potentially the first offensive lineman off the board.

He's better fundamentally than the other "first round" consideration guys and translates that to the field. He was the best offensive lineman at the Senior Bowl and he was substantially better in the field drills at the Combine than everybody else.

I don't think he's perennial All-Pro (he doesn't have elite athletic traits or skill set like a Thomas or Okung), but he's plug and play at four positions on the line and going to give you solid production right from the start at any of those positions. And he plays nasty. Just mean as shit on the field.

That being said, the more closely I look at Oregon's Jake Fisher, the more I liken him to Collins.

In fact, as of right now, I'd put Collins at #1 and Fisher at #2 for OL in this draft. I'm not really excited about the other guys for a potential RT for the Chiefs. Some really, really good guard prospects though.

I'm glad you think so. I like him too, but I'm reading some nfl scouts are thinking he's a low 1st high 2nd. That he translates to a guard in the NFL. If the last statement is true, then yes, he'd drop. Guards don't usually have as much value as an OT.

{Facepalm}

So I could not for the life of me figure out how you and I saw this guy so differently. I recorded the stupid combine on the DVR so I went back and watched...then realized that I'm reeruned.

I was watching Fisher do the footwork/speed drills and got his speed drills mixed up with Flowers bench and in my head created some sort of super-tackle out of the two. Short answer - I'm an idiot.

Yeah, after looking at the guy a bit more and realizing that I simply wasn't thinking of the right dude, I'd be much more inclined to go with Collins at that pick for the Chiefs.
