Paid Time Off from work. How is yours awarded?

I am curious about the number of days your employer awards as paid time off each year. Our company is currently being bought out and the new owners are suggesting they may cut our PTO time as it's "much" too generous and not in line with most companies.

Are your PTO and sick days separate, or the same? Our current system lumps all our paid time of together so you can use it how you need.

Ours is a ramping system where new employees get 15 days (3 weeks) per year, ramping up to 5+ years of service where you are awarded between 25-28 days (5-5.5 weeks) per year. I've been with the company six years so I am maxing out yearly PTO. They are considering capping us at 18 days.

We also get 6 paid holidays per year.

Tell me how your employer treats and awards PTO.

I enjoy the offseason and the life event threads here at CP.

Thanks.

I get that most call ins are bs with people just wanting a day off but the the flip side is someone sneezing and coughing all over the office making everyone else sick.

I gave my employees a day off for either Thanksgiving or Christmas , their choice. After 5 years they get 1 week vacation at my time of choosing.

I worked for a place years ago that included in PTO was two "mental health days" - days where you wake up and just think, "I cannot go to work today." Don't. Take a mental health day.

I think? We get 3 weeks per year but no one ever uses them. There’s no need for us.

23 days all lumped in together. Goes to 28 after 5 years I believe. I'm only at 2. They give us the last week of the year off paid, so Christmas week into NYE paid is pretty nice and doesn't count against your PTO so I can dig that.

Apparently we're getting 4 days of VTO next year. If we want to choose a cause to volunteer for then they'll pay us for up to 4 days.

Ours is combined and called PTO. 0-5 years gets 4 hours per paid period, so about two weeks per year. 5-10 gets 6 hours per pay period, so about three weeks. More than 10 years gets 6 hours per period, plus 20 hours at the beginning of the year.

Max you can accrue is 320 hours (8 work weeks).

Agreed.

We really only seem to have two people who abuse it now. One of them is an older woman with some actual health issues, but the other guy is much younger than me and in good shape - hell, he plays hockey in his spare time. There's no way he's sick as much as he claims. And now that I'm management I see the horseshit emails he sends when he calls off. Oh, I have a sniffle, I need to stay home! Unfortunately, he's one rung above me, so there's nothing I can do about it. I don't know why my boss puts up with it.

You really can't say that for sure. Lot's of disease and problems that have no outward symptom you'd be able to see.

1-9 years 3 weeks vacation, you’ll get 4 weeks at your 10th year.

New hires get 3 weeks sick days with an additional 1 week every year. We also get holidays and 2 personal holidays as well. I’m not staff, but I’m sure staff gets more.

We had 6 sick days a year. 2 "personal days" a year and up to 5 weeks of vacation a year (depending on how long you had been with the company). Plus 6 paid holidays a year.

Before that, in the Army it was a straight 4 weeks a year vacation.
