I realize the pilot above is biased....I don't fly a lot but I've had good and bad experiences.
Last year, a United Flight I was supposed to be on with some co-workers was delayed 3 times, then cancelled.
We had an early meeting in another city the next morning and the agent's solution was for us to fly to Chicago...to see if we could catch a stand-by that was currently full.

She wanted to send me 5hrs from home, to sleep in an airport for a flight I "might" have a chance to get on...and in addition didn't think we'd get a refund citing weather reasons for the delay. There were none.

Instead, we left at 8pm, drove all night, arrived in our destination at 5:30am and I made it to my 7:30 meeting. United can suck balls. my balls.
But once you are ticketed and boarded, thats it, you dont pull people off the plane. PERIOD!

No. If the pilot says you need to GTFO of the seat (for whatever reason he/she may have and regardless if he/she is in the right), then you GTFO of the seat.

I've gotten a few 500 dollar vouchers for giving up my seat, but never been offered more. At least now I know that United's cutoff point is 800 in case I want to try and bargain for more.

Most people sitting in First on United are there because they got upgraded because of their status. I've never paid for First and I get upgraded about 75% of the time.

Yeah, $800 and a hotel isn't bad. Part of the reason I book the first flights out are in anticipation of them being oversold and taking an offer and still getting out same day.

Terrible decision on the airlines part here though.

True, Aircrew has final say... but its rare a Capt comes out and tells someone that they have to leave.

Not in this instance... Now if drunk and pulling your junk out, then yea the Capt will probably have you removed...

One of the stories I read said that they couldn't find four volunteers so the computer randomly picked four people to kick off, and he was one of them.
