Edit: Damn it, I completely missed Lew's sex swing reference earlier. I'm glad he and I are on the same page, though. |

So the sub is a basement below the main basement??

What is the ft sq? Is the house a ranch? If so, that could be a big darn basement. You could build your regular rectangle basement with a "tongue" sticking out that is not cover by the house for your special room? Basements are super cool. Perfect place for the man of the house (oops). I spend a lot of my time in mine. I wouldn't put a basement under a basement. If that is the def of a subbasement. We should all post pics of our mancaves. Might have all ready been done. When we built our extension, if you go out, might as well go up. If you are going out and up, might as well go down too. The basement was the most expensive, but soooo glad I did. BTW, we have a weird old "T" shaped 1903 farmhouse that we added on to. Quote:

What about building a separate out building? Or an addition on the house above ground? Plot size limitations?
Me thinks, digging down (2 stories) to place concrete 25 yd/m gun range will cost a bundle. Quite the conundrum. |

Another issue, if you are going that deep, will it require a special back hoe?
Concrete is expensive. I bet you that is will cost close to double. I am sure when the rest of the CP crew that know a heck of a lot more then I do, will provide quality advice. |

Plot size is no worry. Plenty of land. I just want something that would protect from tornados or be used without having to go outside. As I mentioned previously houses that appear bigger on the outside attract unwanted attention from criminals.

I would think you could grade one side and dig th rest to 90 degrees. The sub basement would be smaller than the basement.
