I've always been a guy to grab an autograph if I really liked the player and had an opportunity. But I've never fought with a kid for one or sold any of them.
I haven't gotten any autographs in a few years, though. I've thought about buying a DT one online, but keep chickening out because I think I'm gunna get scammed. |

The coolest story that I've ever heard pertaining to autographs...
The President of Coca-Cola in the 1960's used to like to sign his name in gold. So, he got a bunch of plates made with thin film of gold... he would use a stylus-type pen and sign his name and the gold would be there. A friend of mine got ahold of 3 of these gold film plates... and took it a baseball show and got Mickey Mantle to sign his name on a baseball for $10. After Mickey signed it, he realized that he had just signed his name in gold for the first and only time in his life... and threw the baseball at my friend. He got it and the plate... put it in a baseball case, and I think eventually sold the ball for over $10,000. |

If Interetsted, I wrote and posted this August, 27th 2008 after returning from River Falls about this very subject.

I'd add a #3 as well, respecting the athletes own time,if they're at a sporting event or the like then yes,if out to dinner with the family or friend then no.

It was alright when I was 14-16. I'm a 33 year old man now. There's something creepy to me about asking someone who's 8 to 10 years younger than you for an autograph. I'll offer up a "good luck tonight" or "great game the other night" and move on.
