Owners of Toyota Cars in Rebellion Over Accidents Caused by Sudden acceleration.

Owners of Toyota Cars in Rebellion Over Series of Accidents Caused by Sudden Acceleration

Anyone else been following this story? They had a pretty graphic show on nightline about it last night.

http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/Runawa...ory?id=8980479

Refusing to accept the explanation of Toyota and the federal government, hundreds of Toyota owners are in rebellion after a series of accidents caused by what they call "runaway cars."

Department of Transportation: underlying defect causes accelerators to stick.

More PhotosSafety analysts found an estimated 2000 cases in which owners of Toyota cars including Camry, Prius and Lexus, reported that their cars surged without warning up to speeds of 100 miles per hour.

CLICK HERE FOR MORE OF THE RUNAWAY TOYOTAS STORY.

Toyota says the incidents are caused by floor mats becoming stuck under gas pedals, but owners say that's not what happened to them.

Watch the full report tonight on 'World News with Charles Gibson' and 'Nightline'.

"I'm absolutely certain that in my situation, it was not the floor mats," Elizabeth James told ABC News. She was driving her Toyota Prius outside Denver, CO when she says it suddenly shot up to 90 miles an hour, even though her foot was on the brake and not the gas pedal.

"I kept going faster and faster," James said. "And all of a sudden… my foot was pressing on the brake super, super hard and I wasn't slowing down."

James and some other Toyota owners suspect the accidents have been caused by some kind of glitch in the electronic computer system used in Toyotas that controls the throttle.

You brought the GM issue up, not me, so expected you to have some knowledge of it, fail.

If you watched the program last night, you might be convinced, as I am, that it is not a floor mat issue. One lady in Prius, said she did not even have the floor mats, in her car.

You might want to read some of the links, or do a google search on the subject, or is this just more of your blind defense of all things foreign again?

Toyotas come with fitted floor mats that are secured to the floor. If you are not smart enough to put them in right, then you deserve to die in a firey crash. This is a case of people trying to sue a large company to get free money. You can sue anyone for anything in this country and alot of times the company settles quick to avoid a long court battle. That's all this is.

I don't care if you put them in wrong, they shouldn't make your gas pedal stick to the floor. If it's on Toyotas having this problem then it's a faulty design issue. Toyota can't just say, "Well, you didn't attach those two pegs through the holes right, it's just too bad your mom, brother and sister died in a fiery crash when it made the gas pedal stick down and they ran off the road into a ditch."

I didn't bring GM up, you did. Remember, "If this were GM, it would be all over the news"?

I guess since a TV show says the Prius is dangerous, I should immediately sell my 84 Chevy pickup with the saddlebag gas tanks, after all Dateline NBC told me they were unsafe.

You might want to ask yourself what your motivation was to post this thread.

How are the gas pedals sticking to floor? Am I the only weird one that doesn't floor the goddamned gas pedal? I mean WTF kind of an explanation is that? Definitely sounds like an ECU issue.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these owners don't know that they could put the car in neutral while it's in motion. And i doubt that they know that holding the push button start would kill the motor.
RTFM?

I was only judging that preferable to accelerating until the engine blows up or you crash into something

I remember some Dodge computers from the late 80's or early 90's early that were affected by a CB radio frequency. A truck using an amp with a CB could actually cause the engine to stop in the car next to it.

YOU Brock brought up the fact that GM had an acceleration issue, that is what I asked the question about. Spin, spin, spin you are the master of it.

Oh, and it is no secret I hate foreign cars, we all know that. I make no bones about it.

This is the first thread I have started in months, and felt it might we a worthwhile discussion, and their might be a remote chance that someone may have some personal experience with it.

I refuted your ill-thought-out comment that "if this were GM it would be all over the news". I just pointed out you were wrong, that's all. It was pretty easy to do. You're too emotionally invested in these garbage American companies to see things objectively.
