Your Most Soul Crushing Loss

Inspired by another thread... This is not a poll cause I know I'm young enough to leave some doozies off, but what is the most painful Chiefs loss you can recall? The one that made you change how you felt about the team/sports in general.

Mine was and still is the Colts meltdown a few years ago. Before that it was the Lin Elliott mess.

Does this embarrassment take the crown for any of you?

This is a safe space. Let it out...

Top Three:

'95 Colts at Arrowhead. Bad kicker BAD!
'97 Donks at Arrohead. The mystery penalty call.
Playing the Colts a couple years ago blowing the 28 point lead. This was the final straw in the trust department with this franchise. I'm still a fan, but after that one my give a damn took a big hit.

This franchise is just a sad sack of loser shit. I hate it. I ****ing HATE IT. But I love it too. I'll be back next year with whatever kind of renewed hope I can possibly have. Which is almost none.

The first Chiefs playoff game I went to was '98 against the Broncos. I was 17. My most vivid memory was on the way out as there were scores of grown men frozen in their seats on the verge of tears. I remember thinking how sad that was.

Fast forward 20 years. Those guys still haven't been able to leave Arrowhead happy after a playoff game. And I'm now a grown man frozen in my seat on the verge of tears after these abortions. FML.

There was never one soul crushing defeat for me. I can't put a date down when my contempt and poor expectations of the whole body of this franchise began. But it was at least 5-7 years ago. Since then I do not waste my time putting any faith or money into anything Chiefs. This playoff loss was expected by me. Even when they were up18pts I fully expected them to shit their pants once again. And they did.

But I think the largest problem is by and large the fan base to allow the Hunt's to dive into their wallets on a weekly basis.

That 28 point collapse had me down for a few days. I’m already over this loss. Still probably won’t be able to watch any football for the rest of the playoffs though.

This is exactly what it is for me.

I didn't even care yesterday. Never for one second did I ever think, at any point in the game that what ended up happening would not happen....because of the games listed by Bwana...along with the no punt game. I was completely apathetic yesterday and I don't like feeling that way.

I think Mahomes may turn the worm!!!

Losing a 28 point 3rd quarter lead to the Colts broke me as a fan. That game took a piece of my soul that I’m never getting back. From the abysmal season the year before to blowing that second half lead to blowing it to the ****ing Colts of all teams, it just became too much for me to bear. I had been growing emotionally distant from the team for a while, but that was the stake through the heart.

The ‘95 and ‘03 playoff losses hurt in a special kind of way even today. But those games were both games we could have or should have won. The last Colts loss was a game that WAS won and then given away. That was when my give a damn gave out.

I've asked myself that same question many times. The respective MU hoops/Chiefs meltdowns yesterday were one of the better kick-in-the-nuts quinellas in the history of those two "cursed" programs. Missouri blows a game with 1 second left and the Chiefs choke away an 18 point home playoff lead against a crappy team. Both were incredible, but entirely predictable.
