I've never had a problem with Pennington Kentucky 31. At Lowe's or Sam's Club, it runs around $54 for a 50 lb bag.

I have tried that in the past didn't get very good results. Of course, I struggle winning the grass battle. I am to the point that I feel I need to just buy the most expensive and hope for the best.

What kind of grass are you trying to plant?
Fescue? Bermuda? Zoysia? In the midwest, hardly anything grows more reliably than Buffalo grass. Its requires very little attention and hardely ever needs mowed. |

That's what I was thinking. Will seeding now have any benefit next spring?

Early fall and early spring are the best times to seed. The temperature is perfect and there's plenty of precipitation.
If you overseed now (this batch will germinate without any problem) and then overseed again next spring, you should have very nice results. |

I thought you were supposed to seed in the fall though
