Late night bullshit: The Chiefs have replaced John Dorsey with you.

Congratulations. We all hate you now.

The Chiefs ended the season at 6-10. They're picking 8th overall in 2015. What do you do?

1. Do you extend Alex Smith, and to what kind of contract?

2. Do you extend Justin Houston, and to what kind of contract?

3. Do you extend Eric Berry, and to what kind of contract?

4. Here is the team's salary cap in 2015 (be sure to hit the "2015" tab). Do you cut anybody?

5. Josh Martin is a RFA. Do you tender him, and if so, to what?

6. We have the following free agents: RB Joe McKnight, FB Anthony Sherman, WR Kyle Williams, WR Junior Hemingway, OT Ryan Harris, OT J'Marcus Webb, OT/G Jeff Linkenbach, G Rishaw Johnson, C Rodney Hudson, DE Allen Bailey, OLB Dezmon Moses, CB Chris Owens, LS Thomas Gafford.

7. Here is a list of free agents. If you do the work to subtract the contracts you've cut, and added in the extensions you've signed, who would you target in free agency?

8. Who/what are you targeting in the draft?

Bill had great drafts. Herm had nothing to do with it other than minor input. 2009 chiefs were worse than 2014 chiefs even though they had the same QB.

Oh wait... When you have to choose between players you have to choose Alex and send Houston off. Extending over-rated players and trading guys with huge upside. Maybe we can trade him for picks. That's what Herm did.

I mean blowing up a team is one thing, but invoking Herm Edwards is more like saying "I'm going to ****ing drop a nuclear bomb on this bitch and then let it lay around for a decade as a radioactive wasteland."

Many many coaches have rebuilt teams successfully, and you're gonna invoke Herm? C'mon Milkman.
Not going back and look at every little detail, but when Herman ****ing Edwards blew things up, he didn't cut the guys that he thought were the core pieces, like LJ, Bowe and Hali.

But, at the end of the day, blowing things up, or rebuilding by drafting core pieces to replace the core pieces whose contracts are up in a year is accomplishing much the same thing, only my way might actually rebuild faster than Dorsey's.

Reid just made the playoffs with Pioli's team for the most post

Haley > Reid
Cassel > Smith

playoffs

We'll see what Dorsey does going for with his guys. So far the only position he's improved in his time here is QB and much of that is on Reid.

Totally agree.

The biggest difference in this team is Andy Reid. Reid is a better coach by far than Romeo and Reid wanted Smith, who is a better QB by far than Cassel.

Pioli fell in love with Cassel and refuse to bring in anyone behind him to develop or compete as well. Our depth at QB is better.

but after that position ... not so much.

Dorsey inherited Charles,Bowe,Hali,Houston,Poe,DJ,Berry.

1. I pay Alex Smith 4 years $60 million w/ $18 million guaranteed. He's the guy Reid wants. Also,we won't be able to get any of the big three QBs in the draft at #8 and it will cost too much to move up.

2. I pay Houston 5 years $60 million w/ $18 million guaranteed. Second highest paid 3-4 OLB.

3. I pay Berry 5 years $50 million w/ $25 million guaranteed. He deserves to be the best paid safety in the league.

4. I opt out of Bowe's contract and get the full $14 million because his contact is void after the suspension. I cut Chase Daniel, AJ Jenkins, Anthony Fasano, and Sean McGrath (not updated on site) and get an additional $7.6 million. I restructure Hali and give him 2 years $16 million with $8 million guaranteed. This frees up an additional $3.5 million.

5. I don't tender Martin.

6. I resign Sherman, Hemmingway, and Bailey for a total of $2.2 million in 2015.

7. I sign FS Antrel Rolle and OT/OG Orlando Franklin to a total of $7 million. If we go 6-10 it's because we can't stop the deep ball and our o-line killed us.

8. I am taking BPA in the draft and staying where I am at with my first pick. I might trade back into the end of the first round later. I'm looking hard at WR and CB. We have a lot of holes to fill if we went 6-10.

Damn dude, I hate to admit it, BUT this is a good plan. I was thinking most of the same things (particularily the Smith & Hali part) then I read your post and started just checking off the list.

The standard protocol for a new Chiefs GM is this:

1) Hire a buddy for the head coaching position. So which one of you wants this job?
2) Then trade 2 second round picks for a backup QB you had a man crush on at some point? I guess I have to give the Eagles two seconders for Mark Sanchez then. SOB.
3) Draft an obtuse non playmaker in the top 5? SOB lets draft Tre Jackson, G, Florida State then
4) While at the draft, lets blow our whole first draft and then blame on being a crappy draft class.

The cost of NOT moving up is shitting in Arrowhead for three years doing nothing for no reason.

No cost is too high for THIS franchise to move up and get a QB.

We literally have NOTHING to lose by moving up and taking a chance on a R1QB.

How can you say that when this franchise continues to feel their very own picks cost too much?

Picking a 29 year old first round QB worked out pretty well for the Browns.
