Any planeteers live near Lake Perry?
I am going to be running Lake Perry Rocks 50K trail race on Saturday Oct 22, and am needing a place to park overnight (preferably free) as the race check in starts 6:30am and starting gun at 8am and I live ~ roughly 3 hours away. Start Line is at the Branded B Ranch near Meriden.
So, if you know of a nearby rest area, camp area, etc.... or have even have a lake house that is vacant, I would appreciate any info. I have never been to this area. The closer the better, I would like to avoid getting up any earlier than necessary. Thanks! Link to race info if you care http://www.psychowyco.com/lakeperrytrailruns/id13.html Sorry if repost... standard disclaimer... etc. etc. Gaz.. blah. |

Rootbound trails? Man, I hate rootbound trails. Good luck!

Trails are way better than roads. Trailrunning is much much easier on your body than roadrunning... even if you include the occasional turned ankle or wipeout on the rocks. I have run almost exclusively on trails in 2011 and am hooked. I ran the one marathon and did not enjoy it very much. I think I will stick to the trails from now on.

You just said that you need a place to park your car. Then you said you are going to run 30 miles.
You have a car. Don't run 30 miles. Drive 30 miles. |

I think I'm spoiled here in Colorado because our trails tend to be nice and smooth. I was up in the Pacific Northwest a couple of times last year, and the trails up there are ridiculous. So many big roots that you really can't even run on them unless you want to break an ankle.

Check out the pics of this course at flatrock... multiple ankle turns, I was cut and bleeding from falling, quads wiped out from climbing steep hills... it was AWESOME. http://www.flatrock50.org/photos/200...le/index3.html |

I read this the other day, and this guy has discovered the best of both worlds: http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/10/12/...e-finish-line/ Marathon Runner Admits to Taking a Bus to the Finish Line By: COURTNEY SUBRAMANIAN (8 days ago) Chicago Tribune / Getty Images Runners, consider this a warning: This is bound to aggravate you. A man who placed third in the U.K. Kielder Marathon has confessed to taking a bus to the finish line from the 20-mile mark, the Telegraph reports. Rob Sloan, 31, completed 26.2 miles in 2:51:00, but suspicions surfaced, including those of the witnesses who reportedly saw him hide behind trees until the first- and second-place runners passed him. Sloan initially denied the accusation and claimed his medal. "I'm upset and angry that someone wants to cast these aspersions. It's laughable, is what it is," he said. When marathon organizers launched an investigation, Sloan quickly changed his tune. He said he had grown tired and admitted to taking the bus, which was made available for spectators watching "Britain's most beautiful marathon." Officials said in a statement, "Rob Sloan of Sunderland Harriers had apparently made the decision to withdraw from the race at approximately 20 miles due to fatigue, and after returning to the Leaplish Park area he decided to run the closing section of the course and crossed the finish line in third place." Sloan may face expulsion from his running club, Sunderland Harriers, and may be barred from competing in future marathons. "It's not the kind of advertising we need," club vice president Anne Lillie said. "We'll be discussing Rob's future when the executive committee meets next week." Organizer of the race and former world-record holder Steve Cram noted Sloan's egregious deception. "He was the only runner in the whole of the race who ran the second half quicker than the first half," he said. Read more: http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/10/12/...#ixzz1bL0JJBuB

There, I probably just saved you $300. As a financial planner, you only owe me 50% of that $300 I just put in your pocket. |

There's some water and some trees - a lot of dirt. A wet leaf or two is there this time of year. Your typical insects and small wildlife too. Unless your name is Plaxico, you may wish to tuck a small pistol in your sweats.
