Winfield, KS. Island Park burned down AGAIN

Some assholes burned down this park years ago. Last night, they burned it down AGAIN. When they rebuilt it, it was supposed to be fire reerunant this time. It's pretty ****ed up, my nephew loves that park, he lives there. He's pretty sad he's not going to get to spend the spring break playing at that park a little bit.

I hope they catch these ****s and treat them as terrorists..

WINFIELD, Kansas -- A popular playground, rebuilt after being destroyed in an arson fire, again is in ashes.

Crews were called to the Island Park Playground in Winfield just after 10 p.m. Thursday for a report that the 2,000 square foot playground was on fire.

When they arrived, the structure, which features a castle entryway, was engulfed in flames.

More than 25 firefighters from as far away as Udall were called in.

Fire officials quickly decided that they had to let the playground burn because the fire was so hot.

The structure burned to the ground in 2008 in an arson fire and those who started it were convicted in 2009.

Once again, a Winfield fire investigator says, it's a total loss.

"When we rebuilt the park it cost around $250,000 to do it, so it is a substantial loss, not only in money, but this park was an attraction, not only to just the Winfield people, but to surrounding communities as well," said Patrick Ramirez, a Winfield Fire Investigator on the scene.

The fire has already been ruled a suspicious because there are no power lines near the playground that could have sparked and started the blaze.

Residents on Friday say they will rebuild the playground again.

"I don't think this is going to let us down. The last time it was burned, we just picked up and rebuilt and donated money for it as well and I as well as a lot of people in this town will continue to donate," said Shelly Whitmore, Winfield resident.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crimestoppers at 620-221-7777.

Information can also be given to the Winfield Police Department at 620-221-5555.
