Some fanbases watch recruiting announcements, others build statues for guys who never even played for a National Title. Diff'rent strokes my friend.

I watch recruiting announcements too, even when my team has no skin in the game, which is quite often.

Never thought of hosting or attending a party for such a thing. I suppose "fanbases" that have so much self worth tied to a decision of an 18-21 year old would do such things.

Imagine the #3 player in football played in Kansas City. And he was choosing between KSU and, say, Ohio State. Would some students get together in Manhattan to watch, even at the student union? I bet they would.

I recall the #1 recruit in the country (who played in Wichita) in Football choosing between K-State, Miami, Florida and Tennessee (may have been a few other schools). I don't recall any watch parties.

Still - that's football.

True, football players normally don't make nearly the difference a hoops player does so I can see how it could be different. Still, if say Bubba Starling was choosing between KSU and Ohio State I could see some Powercat dweebs hudding together in their ratty apartments watching it downing cheetos and powerade.

KU is in the "JV league" - a league, which by the way, Mizzou could never win.

MU fans sure talk a lot about how bad our football program and conference is and belittle the importance of basketball for fans of a team that hasn't won a conference championship in either sport in 20 years. Luckily for them, basketball probably mattered then. Otherwise, football has been even tougher sledding for the last 45 years.

The Cliff announcement was a big deal for U of I for a while. Unfortunately, the buffoon currently coaching in Manhattan torpedoed the program so we are not really used to even being part of the conversation with top 10 recruits. It sucked not getting him but I totally understand him picking KU. The hat fake was a dick move but he is a dipshit high school kid.

Even without Cliff, Groce is still recruiting pretty well given the state of the program when he inherited it. Friday was just a double nut-punch day because we also lost a verbally-committed recruit in Quentin Snider.
