no. this offense is only as good as the defense goes.
if the defense gives up a quick TD/STs for a TD; or our offense has a few turnovers that lead to eventually lead to a TD... they're ****ed. basically, if they're down by 3 possessions, turn out the lights.

I would consider a playoff win or a competitive playoff game a huge success, given where this team was supposed to be. I, like you, am not at all excited about a playoff run with Alex Smith. But I think building off this year and adding much needed talent on offense even with Alex Smith makes us decent competitors. We are definitely outside shots to win, but our defense has to be very good and our offense can win on efficiency (which we have been a tale of two teams here all season long).

We have all seen this movie before. Marty's high tech defense and lame offense or Vermiel's dominating offense and no defense. I think we know how this is going to end.

2010: 900 yards for LaDanian Tomlinson, 760 yards for Shonn Green, 180 yards for Joe McKnight, 300 yards for Brad Smith. Team rushed for 2374 yards at 4.4 ypc. 534 of 1087 plays were rushes (49%) Obviously the Chiefs aren't even close to that. We've only rushed 255 times in 596 plays (43%), and Alex Smith himself accounts for 20% of those runs (53), most of which came on broken pass plays. He's also responsible for just under a quarter of the team's rushing yards. They'll be lucky to reach 2000 yards rushing for the year at their current clip. Of course many of Charles' catches supplement that, but the point remains that this is not a power running team like the Jets were in Sanchez's first two seasons. |

I don't think they have much of a chance unfortunately unless something drastically changes.

Of course they do. The Giants that beat the Patriots got hot late and surprised everyone. It happens. Sometimes football teams figure it out mid season. It's possible that our offense just hasn't gotten going and will figure it out. Who knows for sure.
Is it likely? No. Obviously not. Alex Smith is exactly who we feared he would be. He isn't likely to come up with more. The offensive line is just embarrassing at times. It will come down to our defense having to be (practically) flawless and our special teams being elite. That is hard to do week in week out so we will probably not go too deep into the playoffs. That said, only the most pessimistic fan can't admit that stranger things have happened than our offense figuring it out. |

I think the Chiefs are 12 to 1 right now to win it all. So people betting actual dollars, and not just posting on some MB, think there is a decent chance.

This. And after 9 games to think something IS going to change drastically isn't very realistic.

offense is good but defense is better why score on offense when defense can put up mad points for you
look out nfl you may have an offense but can your defense score? every team is at a disadvantage against our touchdown scoring defense
