He's not Cassel, he's Deberg.

at least, I'd say that's his floor. Either way, it's not good enough to go the distance, which is what we're all pissed about, right?

I assume that Reid thinks he can take Smith to the next level, and perhaps he can. Let's be really clear about the 9'er offense: Kaepernick flourishes for a few physical reasons, and as a centerpiece of the read-option. Smith, being a traditional pocket passer, just ran the normal NFL style offense there. Yes, they ran the ball and played defense-they still do that with Kaepernick. Yes he gets more yardage as the defense has to play him differently. He's also a freak athlete and runs for a lot of yards.

My point is that it's possible Reid CAN get more production out of Smith. It also seems that Reid and Dorsey are unimpressed with Geno and the rest of the possible first round crew. Maybe not though. Maybe they've got a trade down plan in place and have possible partners in line.

The thing that bothers me the most is if they really did give up a #2 and not just swap #2's then we lose the opportunity for a Nassib/Emanuel/Dysert type project. Possibly even a shot at Barkley, who might fall due to the injury.

It's not his job to evaluate QB's. That's what he hires guys for.
Interview question number one should be how do you plan on addressing the most important position on the field? If any part of the answer included trading for another teams unwanted castoff, then Clark has failed in his evaluation.

Clark has done nothing that suggests he wants to win a SB.

He cares more about the MLS than the Chiefs.

He cares more about the franchise's profit margin than their win-loss total.

He doesn't care about middle or lower Kansas Citians: he's a billionaire that's never worked a day in his life and lives in Dallas.

You're fuggin exhausting, look at what you wrote, that came out of your mind? This is what pops into your head while reading a football site?

The original argument:

"He's not good enough to win"

Reply (adjusted for your dumbass):

Alex Smith successfully lead his team to the SB and could be a SB winning QB, but some jerkoff DID drop a punt and lost the game after Smith had already won it for his team.

Can your mind now process this information? Let me know if I need to bring out the flash cards like Matty needed.

Perhaps he should have qualified what year he intended to start on that. Because right now it doesn't look like that's what he's trying to do. It looks like he's trying to limp by another year with another cast off QB to avoid risking a franchise grown QB yet again...

That's the problem, actually. Hiring the biggest names instead of the best candidates. It speaks to laziness at best and, at worst, indifference beyond the realm of the financial. Or it speaks to an inability on Clark's part to know how to evaluate candidates or how to run a franchise successfully.

So let me get this straight:

Clark Hunt hires the guys that 80% of people on ChiefsPlanet approve of. Hooray! Clark is awesome!

Those guys do something that 80% of people on ChiefsPlanet disapprove of. Boo! Clark is a horrible owner!

Did I miss anything?

Other than paying a boat load of money for the top GM available in 2009 and then when that didn't work out, paying a boat load of money for the top coach available this year.

You know, because rich guys love to throw money around in an effort to not win anything.

This is absolutely ridiculous....Go back and read the pages and pages of "I want John Dorsey" thread and the "Andy Reid, great pick" threads.

Clark, with both the Pioli pick and these hires attempted to get the best he could get.

Some of you are just nuts.

There might be a correlation, but that is a non-sequiter as far as our discussion goes. Your implicit argument of "you'll think he's terrible as long as he doesn't do everything you'd like him to do" has nothing to do with my argument of "the biggest names, according to fans and media, aren't necessarily the best hires."

I really don't blame Clark for any of this. This is the second time he's gone out and got the perceived best FO guy out there.

Unfortunately, perception isn't infallible.

I'm going to respond to this specious post the same way I responded yesterday:

Here's how I see it:

Clark Hunt hired the guy who was the biggest name. Not the guy who was the best candidate, the guy who was considered the best candidate. There is a difference, and when you run a business you need to differentiate between the two.

Turns out Hunt made an awful hire. ***** is one of the two to three worst GMs in league history. But that's not why Hunt fired him. Hunt fired him because the man was so terrible at his job that it started affecting Hunt's revenue streams. So what did Hunt do? He brings in another guy. A retread, but a big name. The biggest available name.

Why? Because most people are fools, protagonists in a theater of the moronic. They see the name Andy Reid, look at his past in Philadelphia and then assume that he'll be good in his next job, ignoring potential mitigating factors like Jim Johnson, Donovan McNabb, or Reid's game management, which might be the worst in the NFL.

Then Hunt hires Dorsey, an understudy, a man who never made a draft pick on his own.

These two then go out and not only outdo the worst trade in franchise history, they do it by a factor of two, alienate their franchise LT in the process, and leave themselves with no viable alternative and one pick in the first 64. One. A pick that will be used to replace a young player who is already here.

Here's the truth of the matter: Clark Hunt is a ****ing liar. He said he wanted a team like the Steelers, then hires a guy from the Patriots who does everything The Patriot Way. He said he wanted to draft and develop his own QB, then his team trades for Matt Cassel and then Alex Smith.

Hunt is playing the fanbase. He wants to put in as little effort as possible (hence the big names rather than a broad search for the best candidate) and maximize financial return.

It's easy to build a 7-9 team in the NFL, and that's what both of his regimes have tried to do. He knows that's all he needs because that is what will fill the stadium. Clark cares about $, not wins. The Smith trade is designed to make sure this team wins 6-8 games next year. That will fill the stadium and boost STH renewals.

Winning only matters for us. We have to stop assuming that we want the same thing from the Chiefs that Hunt does. He wants money from it. You and I are credit cards for him to charge. We're line items on a P&L statement. He doesn't care about the fans and never will. He'll affect the perception of caring about the fans, but if he did, you wouldn't see the management style, hires, and tone deaf nature of the organization such as it is.
