I'm not surprised to find out that we did have worse passing games last season. In fact I would've been surprised to find out we didn't. Good defenses can shut down our passing game because they simply don't have to respect our WRs.

As for Dante, I'd just as soon see him lined up in the backfield for his screen plays, giving the O-Line an opportunity to get out in front. That WR screen is fairly ineffective, because there isn't enough blocking. Dante's ability to make people miss is becoming legendary, but he can't make all 11 guys miss that often.

When he has a slightly off game, as he did Sunday night, or when defenses get early pressure, because of the receivers inability to get any separation, the passing game can be contained. If the Chiefs had a legitimate threat at receiver, then Green wouldn't have to be at his best to be successful. Good receivers can help a QB. Ours can't.

Good observations.
The one thing that I have seen people only allude to is the horrible field position the CHIEFS were stuck with. I'm going completely off of memory but it seems to me the best starting point for the CHIEFS in the first half was their own 23 or 25. Whereas the Broncos seemed to be starting drives between their own 35 and midfield. I'm no expert but I've heard that this can have a significant effect on what plays are called and, in turn, what plays are called later in the game. Losing at Denver by 10 is no big deal but the CHIEFS need some work to get in good form. |
