I never really thought about the schedule as it pertained to the Dolphins team.

And while KC is demonized for it, they are celebrated. I wonder if its more attributed to revisionist history, or to the 'midwest effect'~

If the Chiefs go 16-0 and win the SB no one will bitch about their schedule.

Just for shits and giggles

Patriots 2007 18-1 Team

Week 1 NYJ 38-14 NYJ final record - 4-12
Week 2 SD 38-14 SD final record - 11-5 (AFC West Champ)
Week 3 BUF 38-7 BUF final record - 7-9
Week 4 CIN 34-14 CIN final record - 7-9
Week 5 CLE 34-17 CLE final record - 10-6 (DNQ for playoffs)
Week 6 DAL 48-27 DAL final record - 13-3 (NFC East Champ)
Week 7 MIA 49-28 MIA final record - 1-15
Week 8 WAS 52-7 WAS final record - 9-7 (Wild Card)
Week 9 IND 24-20 IND final record - 13-3 (AFC South Champ)
Week 10 BYE
Week 11 BUF 56-10 (7-9)
Week 12 PHI 31-28 PHI final record - 8-8 (DNQ Playoffs)
Week 13 BAL 27-24 BAL final record - 5-11
Week 14 PIT 34-13 PIT final record - 10-6 (AFC North Champ)
Week 15 NYJ 20-10 (4-12)
Week 16 MIA 28-7 (1-15)
Week 17 NYG 38-35 NYG final record - 10-6 (wildcard)

They played 6 playoff teams the rest could be considered "cupcake"

Looking backwards and forwards of the Chiefs schedule this year:
Dallas or Philadelphia will win the NFC East
Indy will win the AFC South
Denver will be a playoff team (either division winner or as a wildcard)
San Diego or Tennessee could still pull a wild card depending on how well the Jets hold up

so potentially 5 teams/6 games played against playoff teams

not comparing '07 NE against this years' Chiefs but interesting schedule comparison

Nobody in KC should bitch about anything for like 10 years if that happens.

and It would not be publicized 40 years later

A better comparison is who has had an easier schedule and still not went 19-0.

Easy schedule or not, its not easy at all.

Exactly what I was thinking earlier to myself. Are we the first team to face a relatively easy schedule in this history of the NFL? No.. but apparently we are the first to run the table on that schedule. It's how you handle the schedule that matters. Now more than ever with the parity in the NFL.

Maybe I was just drunk.

No, I read the OP, when I got into the strength of schedule part, I pretty much started skimming, which is how little I care about that nonsense. I certainly don't need to have the strength of schedule analyzed with two new metrics, or waste my time with it. I get it, some other metrics show maybe Miami had a easier schedule. blah, blah.

Point is, teams face schedules as light as ours every year and don't go 9-0.

No, they don't.

This year, Kansas City's average opponent has been 4.5 points worse than league-average. That might not sound like a lot, but it's truly remarkable. Since the merger in 1970, just 12 teams have finished the schedule with its average opponent 4.0 points worse than league-average.

It's totally cool that your incurious guess led you to a completely false conclusion, though. Really proved your point with that one.

Coincidentally, I just finished reading this piece as well as Simmons' game picks. (He's picking the Chiefs to cover, at least.) I think Barnwell is trying to make a case for the Chiefs here mostly due to the fact that almost no one else is, but he's so meticulous that you buy all of it. I'm ready.

Oh, and that is a high quality copy/paste. Links, gif, format, everything...well, except the footnotes, but we don't have a sidebar here.
