The NFL is going to reject Tom Brady’s appeal and uphold the four-game suspension he is facing for his alleged role in Deflategate, according to one report.

Stephen A. Smith said on ESPN’s “First Take” Tuesday morning that a source told him Roger Goodell will not reduce or overturn Brady’s suspension. Perhaps more shocking, Smith cited a separate source who told him Brady actually destroyed his own personal cell phone rather than just refusing to turn it over.

We have known all along that the bigger issue here is Brady’s lack of cooperation during the Ted Wells investigation. The NFL was furious that Brady wouldn’t give up “relevant” text messages and emails that might help clarify his level of involvement — or lack thereof — in Patriots equipment managers allegedly letting air out of game balls.

Smith clarified that he was told by one source that the NFL is going stand by its four-game suspension within the next 24-48 hours, whereas the information about Brady destroying his cell phone was just “something I heard.” It was almost as if he was downplaying the information knowing how much of a bombshell the rumor was.

Reports in recent weeks have been all over the place regarding Brady’s appeal. There has been some indication that the two sides are working toward a settlement, though reports like this one make that seem unlikely.

If the NFL upholds the suspension, no one would be stunned. If someone can prove that Brady destroyed his cell phone, that would be tough for the New England Patriots quarterback to explain.

My god, some of you people are so blinded by your hatred of the Patriots to come to any type of rational conclusion.

There have been completely independent tests and plenty of physicist who have stated that the Wells report was deeply flawed. Period.

Roger Goodell ****ed this up, just like he ****s up everything. Inconsistent punishment, stupid decisions but more importantly, the dumbshit couldn't even hire someone outside the NFL's sphere of influence to investigate a troubling claim by the Colts and Ravens.

IMO, the whole thing should be thrown out, along with Goodell. It's completely biased, ignores evidence and interviews and will likely make the league office look even worse after it's all said and done.

Did you guys ever year the interview Josh McDaniels gave after getting caught taping walkthroughs with Denver?

They posted it at the mane a few days ago...he was like "this wasn't coached and part of game prep like it was in NE"

Funny, baseball won't let Pete Rose in the HOF because he bet on other games, but all Brady gets for hurting the integrity of the game is a 4 game suspension.

this is absolutely true... the other day I was in a rush to meet my girlfriend for lunch (we both have fairly hectic schedules and I was running, as always, a bit behind). I rolled through a stop sign and a cop was just barely in my periphery, and I missed her before I started the roll and was committed as I saw her...

she pulled me over within five seconds. I smiled and apologized, somewhat self-depreciating (do you know why I pulled you over? "Yeah--I must be the dumbest guy on earth for rolling through the sign with you right there, and I even freaking saw you... was in a rush, blah blah blah").

let me right off. looked at license and insurance (which, lol, was the one that expired a week before the incident without my putting the new one in my car), warned me and let me go on my way.

you can generally get further in life not being a raging asshole and actually cooperating with others.

The Wells Report was completely inconclusive and biased.

There's just as much of a chance that he didn't cheat than he did, which is why this whole thing is bullshit.

Don't really care either way but didn't the NFL put proper balls in play beginning in the second half of that game? Didn't the Patriots out score the Colts by 28 points or something in said second half? I never hear people point out that with the properly inflated balls the Pats absolutely crushed Indy (who had kept it close with the deflated balls).

Totally fine with the suspension since it does seem like Brady is acting guilty and probably did it in the past based on what I read -- so whatever.
