Kane County Cougars, now a Royals farm team
I looked at the first four pages, and did a search nothing. So if it is a repost, tuff.
This is pretty exciting, I went to a few games this summer. Hated it that they were an A's affiliate. It is a great atmosphere to watch a ball game, now I will get to see some of the Royals prospects! Everything You Wanted to Know...and Then Some Here's an inside look at the Cougars new affiliation with the Kansas City Royals With the Cougars' recent announcement of an affiliation partnership with the Kansas City Royals, we thought we'd have a little fun in presenting some facts and commonly asked questions regarding our new parent club. Without further ado... - The agreement between the Cougars and Royals does not affect the ownership, management or front office staff of the Kane County Cougars in any manner. Fans can expect even more of the same fun in 2011: family entertainment, exciting promotions, great food and Major League affiliated baseball. - The Royals began their existence in Kansas City as part of Major League Baseball's decision to expand the league in 1969. That year, the team finished with the best record among the four new teams and was led by Rookie of the Year Lou Piniella. - Don't expect to see the familiar white shoes of the Cougars' teams, as you might have seen in past years. Both the Oakland A's as well as their minor league affiliates historically have donned the light-colored footwear for years. Next year, it's safe to expect something along the lines of black cleats. The Royals' spring training complex is located in Surprise, AZ, roughly a 45-minute drive from the Cougars' previous spring training home with the A's in Phoenix. Whether that information actually DOES surprise you, we're not sure. But we thought we'd at least pass it along. - There's certainly a long list of notable names from Royals past who enjoyed fantastic big league careers. Those players include George Brett, Hal McRae, Frank White, Willie Wilson and Bret Saberhagen. - Only one former Cougar has made his big league debut as a Royal (Chip Ambres, 7/20/05), yet a handful of former Cougars have logged time as a Royal during their Major League career including Scott Podsednik, Denny Bautista, Hector Carrasco, Todd Dunwoody, Ross Gload and Gregg Zaun. - The Royals' Class-A team, which had previously been located in Burlington, IA, has produced quite a pipeline of prospects. Burlington won the '08 Midwest League title and was runner-up in '09. Further up the Kansas City farm system, Royals prospect Mike Moustakas swatted 36 home runs to finish the regular season tied for the most home runs in all of Minor League Baseball. - Even though the Cougars are now linked with the Royals, keep in mind that the Oakland A's, as well as teams throughout ALL of Major League Baseball, will continue to hold some of the best talent who were also once future big league stars and played right here at Elfstrom Stadium. That list includes: - Miguel Cabrera (Tigers, Cougar in '01), a five-time All-Star and one of the top run scorers in the game. - Trevor Cahill (A's, Cougar in '07), the pitching phenom who has won 17 games this season at the age of 22. - Andre Ethier (Dodgers, Cougar in '03), who has morphed into one of the game's top stars and is recognized as one of the top clutch hitters in all of Major League Baseball. - Ryan Dempster (Cubs, Cougar in '96), who has won 10 games or more for the Cubs in three straight seasons. - Adrian Gonzalez (Padres, Cougar in '01), San Diego's big bat who is hoping to lead his team to the N.L. West division title. Gonzalez was named Midwest League MVP as a Cougar in 2001. |

I took the grandsons, and we had seats in the first row, right next to the on deck box for the Cougars. Fun times, the food is good and beer is cold. It is much better atmosphere than going to see either of the Major league teems here, that I hate. |
