Did Alex Smith remind you of Matt Cassel tonight?

7-16

62 yards (45 net)

3 sacks

3 passing first downs (1 on a screen pass)

0 completions over 8 yards.

4 punts

NO TOUCHDOWNS

NO BIG PLAYS

NO INTERMEDIATE PLAYS

I'm pretty sure they have the same father, just different mothers.

He's not good at quick decisions.
As long as he is good at pre-snap reads.

I'm not all that well versed in Andy Reid offense... nor have I really paid that much attention to Alex Smith through the years. We have been told multiple times that Smith and Manning are two of the best at watching the film and being game ready. And we have been told multiple times that Reid is an offensive guru. I want to believe that come regular season game day that Smith has the ability, and the green light from Reid, to audible into a correct formation and play based off of the pre-snap reads.

We have also heard from pundits covering the training camp that we are working fast, using multiple shifts and motions. We haven't seen much of that... at least the shifts and motions so far in the games.

Hopefully once the games start for real, Smith will recognize the defense, audible into the correct play... be that a pass or run... and shift the players into the right spots to pick up the blitzes if need be so that the whole team is on the same page. Obviously we were not on the same page last night at least once during every drive in the 1st half.

He's not the first guy to get dealt a shit hand. Especially at his position.

The dude did nothing for 7 years. He was comically bad in stretches, but people still loved him. He got booed on MNF. And people still loved him.

It took him damn near a decade to put up what are essentially rookie numbers. People still loved him. (I know he had a high completion pct and QB rating, I get it.)

I have no ill will for the 49ers to do badly.......

But, that is my problem with 49er fans now days. Which is why I gave up who I was on this board, and got banned for it finally from the 49ers board. Your heads are so far up your ass, and you believe that you are so superior to every other team in the league that you think that you cant be beat.

And for anyone to say anything contrary to the fact that the 49ers are going to monkey stomp everyone, and win the Lombardi before the season starts, is the same bullshit 49er fans used to cry about when the Patriots were doing it. Its embarrassing. The meltdown if the 49ers lose to the packers, is going to be EPIC.

It wouldn't fault Alex having a below average game vs one of the top defenses that would cripple every top QB in the league for most of the game. Lucky for you guys... Alex isn't going to face the niners defense this year unless they make the SB lol.

With Alex, you don't have Tom Brady, but you don't have mark sanchez either. You are always gonna have a chance to be in the game, which is a relatively great thing. I know i know, you chief fans have been through hell most of your fandom.. but you guys have a chance to GREATLY improve under this crew.

Alex will start out a lot of drives like the saints game I think, with short yard plays, slants.. medium crosses to get in rhythm. He's going to get charles the ability to have YAC. Yes, it's boring, not Drew Brees, Brady, etc attacking the defense greatness, but charles is explosive with the ball in his hands.

I know you guys sort've already got that with cassel, but Matt is not as good as Alex, and not as smart with the ball... that dude was so over hyped.
Im not too familar with Reid's offense, but I think Mccnab and westbrook is what he is aiming for Alex and Charles to be.

Besides alex, some guys need to step up and inspire some confidence in Alex to be able to throw down the field.. catch the ball! I hope Reid wasn't really trying when it come to the offense and he has some better game planning, and getting some guys open. Alex isn't going to force it to guys who can't get separation early in the game, or until guys are behind. Yes, i know you guys are sick of QB's not taking a chance but I think with this QB you guys will always have a chance to be in the game. The problem as you all know is being able to come back if needed or to put the game away...and that is TBD. Don't take preseason to literal but i can understand the concern.

I wish you guys best of luck

The delusional thing is showing again. I never said anything about what the Niners are going to do. I just stuck to the fact that Alexis sucks and this board is going to replay every delusional hope you clung to on the Niner board for years.
It's still dirt simple. Alexis sucks.

Everyone sees things in all different phases. If Alex Smith had been drafted into the situations that Kaep, and Aaron Rodgers was, I believe he would of been a better player. The 49ers organization was so bad until Jed took over and hired Jim, and Trent, that its really a miracle in itself that Alex Smith is even in the league anymore at all.

That's why I like him. He made it through hell. Yeah, Kaep is obviously the better player. It also doesn't change the fact that a lot of teams passed on him as well, and that without Harbaugh, he wouldn't be the player he is today.

That's what people don't understand.

What, you think Brandon Weeden would be doing what he is doing right now if his head coach was still pat shurmer, and not Chud, and Norv?

Coaching at this level makes all the difference. Having a competent front office also helps.

Alex Smith is not overly talented at all, but he was never as bad as he was under Nolan, and Sing. Just like if lets say Kaep had been drafted by jax instead of Gabbert, do you really think Kaep would still be KAEP?

The NFL is a team game. If the QB does a serviceable job they have a fair chance to win.
Rothlisberger had an 80 yard drive in the two minute drill to win the Super Bowl.

Eli had a game winning drive to win the Super Bowl.

I don't know if I would call going 12-4 with the best passing offense in the AFC and the 2nd best passing defense, stumbling in.

You're right about Tom Brady. But if we're talking about the Chiefs, I don't think Ty Law is coming through that door.
