HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)

Huge, Huge News

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

That girl who plays Brienne is pretty tall. I'm not sure about the hair, but it's looks like some interesting choices are being made. Arya looks perfect in those pics! Can't wait.

I'm not sure I'd call Carice van Houten plain jane, and I think that impression is probably a matter of the way she's outfitted, but I always envisioned a redder red, too, both hair and outfit. But there was a lot of concern about casting for the first season, too. I'd say at this point they've probably earned the benefit of the doubt. Brienne to me looks suprisingly good. They've done a good job of making her look male in her armor. She doesn't looked prettied up at all.

Well, the colors they chose do seem to fit the somber atmosphere of the show.

Danerys looks like she may have lost a little junk from her trunk and slimmed down just a bit. Looking good.
Hodor comes across to me as a bigger guy in the books.
Definitely had the Red Priestess pictured as more flamboyant, brighter red hair and clothes but we'll see.

Anyone heard this theory:

Mad Aerys raped Joanna Lannister making Tyrion a Targaryen. So far this has been based on the fact that in A Game Of Thrones he mentioned dreaming of dragons. Also Aemon told Jon that Targaryens dream of dragons, and Tyrion has a hobby of reading everything he can find about dragons. We learn in A Dance With Dragons that if Aerys had married as he wished instead of for political reasons he would have wanted to marry Tywin’s wife. Is it possible that Tyrion is not Tywin’s son? I doubt it. Much has been made of him being the son who takes after Tywin the most. But this is definitely tossing a bone to that theory.
