What greatness could you achieve in one year?
Today is March 18, 2010. If you put your laser mind to it and set that Bill Cowher-like jaw of yours and really, really went all out with no fear of failure and singleminded determination, what could you accomplish by March 18, 2011? And what's keeping you from doing it?
Just curious. I occasionally find myself feeling envious of people who are achieving great success, and then I realize that I'm not setting this Bill Cowher-like jaw of mine. Maybe it's time to make a push to achieve some greatness. |

theres alot of pressure and responsibility in being great in a grand scale. think id rather be a king maker than a king. so i'll just be great in my tiny kingdom. great mom great lover great friend. these are worthwhile goals.

Right after I see my part in your script.
I could be that bitch that dies because she thinks she can take on Freddy with a nail file.

My blessings come from my kids and now my grandkids. I continue to believe I am the best at my job even though that doesn't translate into more money. Also, I have gone back to school and will obtain my bachelor's degree in a couple of years. That should help the income side.
I really don't want greatness any more. If I were to single-mindedly pursue greatness I feel my children and wife would suffer. I prefer to have the time and energy to appreciate my loved ones. That is the greatness I aspire to and hopefully have achieved. |

Anyone with kids would have a hard time answering this. Once you have kids, any risk you take has a much greater overall effect. Great question though! (wish I'd thought of it before my kids!).

Great post Rainman. It is the last bit of inspiration I need to push me into action.
Starting first thing Monday morning I'm going to get the ball rolling. I've had a 'project' in mind for a few years now and one way or another I'm going to take care of business. It's quite an undertaking but after reading your post I realised I just need to set my mind to it. Thinking it through my best estimate is this is going to take at least one year maybe even two. It's even possible it could take 10 to 20 yrs. No small task but the end result, if it all works our alright will be very rewarding. So, Monday morning, 8:00 am I'll be at the local post office here. Then on to the post office in the next town, then the next. One way or another I'm going to visit every post office within a 300 mile radius of here. Every single photo they have of me up on their bulletin boards is coming down.

I've been thinking about this exact same thing lately.
I finally decided that my goals for the next year are.... MCSA certification EMC Clariion Certification vMWare Certification if at all possible. No boot camps either. I'm hoping that by this time next year I could make 1/4 - 1/3 more $$$$. It would depend on my girlfriend and I leaving the town we are in now though. Although small I kind of like it here. Would really like more money though. Even if we don't leave I will be able to take great pride in the knowledge I have learned to go along with my experience. Plan on taking 2 MCSA tests by mid-late april. going on a mini vacation, coming back and taking EMC Clariion class and get certified. Finish taking the rest of my MCSA studying and tests and if all goes well I'll be taking vmWare classes by the end of the year. Gunna be tough working 45-50 hour weeks but I think I can do it.
