Impressionism and abstract conceptualism is more of a joke to me. splattered paint on canvas that shows absence of relevancy to what masters of art valued as viewing through the looking glass of an individuals mind to replicate life as to how they interpret it. I think these realism pieces are fascinating and it shows just how much TRUE talent there is out there to do such a thing. It's even more amazing if the artist isn't looking at something to reproduce but it comes from memory and his soul. That to me is a true artist. |

My wife is an art teacher. She appreciates all kinds of art. She explains art, like food. Foods come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, colors, textures, flavors, etc. And it's all good in its own way. People have food preferences, just like people have art preferences. You can't say whether a hamburger is better than a piece of apple pie. They're both great in their own way.
I had a hard time with Jackson Pollock and with Mark Rothko (the color fields painter) when I saw their stuff at first. But now I understand. Photo realism is one of my favorite genres, because I love attention to detail. Wish I had the skill to re-create what the camera in my head sees, to reproducing it with my hands. I find that an amazing and rare talent. Bob Dole mentioned Chuck Close. He's also one of my very favorite photo realist painters. One of his black and white works is in the St. Louis Art Gallery, and it's stunning in its realism. You can read about Chuck here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Close |

My art teacher was great with pastels, they looked like photos.
What some people can do is amazing. The ballpoint pen one though I want to see done. Even at my best the pen blobs up sometimes. |

Guess he is legit. Some of the comments on there are like here though. lol, defining art. Most of the douche art guys that I have met who bash on reality drawings like in the link could never on their best day do have as well. Their interpretations of the color blue on a canvas is not art. it is lazy. |

Anyone talking junk on this is either jealous or ****ing reeruned. They have no clue how difficult photorealism is and anyone who says photo realism isn't 'art' is a fool. Probably a jackass who thinks Jackson Pollock is an artist because he got drunk and threw paint on a canvas angrily. The "appreciators' sure liked it. Art 'appreciators' are some of the biggest idiots in the world. Most of them have no artistic skill themselves... they're just yuppies who like to 'set the bar' and act like know it all snobs. |
