He will trade the old guys, but that's nothing new.
What would be new, however, is if he got something of value for them.

I still think we have some guys who could pitch someday.
The problem is, we can't keep anybody healthy. I think that's the real issue. We can't keep a single pitching prospect healthy. Greinke, Affeldt, Hernandez, Bautista, Snyder, Burgos, MacDougal and on and on... have all missed time for one thing or another the last few years. Sometimes guys are going to have growing pains, but they have to be healthy so they can keep going out there every 5th day or every save situation, etc... and keep learning. We haven't been able to do that. Look at the Tigers, Bonderman, Maroth, Robertson, etc... those guys put up some horrible numbers, worse than even some of our pitching prospects, but they were actually able to stay healthy and keep improving, and now they're part of the best staff in the league. Meanwhile our guys can't stay healthy enough to sustain any improvement. |

But, at some point, you have to draft guys that are healthy specimens (both mentally and physically). The Royals org. has had a knack for drafting guys who become chronically injured (menatally and physically). It's beyond amazing how reliable the stat really is. So, no matter their potential, they aren't worth a spit to the org, or to anyone else, if they can't stay healthy enough to get better as a pitching talent. So, as I mentioned, we have little, if any, reliable (read: mentally and physically capable) pitching talent.

i think they should of offered Baird a job as assistant GM in charge of the minor league system etc.
i think he's a good guy and has enough talent to warrant trying to keep him in the organization.

I'm sure we will draft some pitchers in the upcoming draft.

You'd think the law of averages would say the Royals would get lucky with a pitcher at some point.....
When you draft for signability over ability, don't develop players well and then top that off by bringing guys who aren't ready up. Your minor league system isn't going to be rated very well. |

I think these young guys need to keep going out there and go through the pains. I say bring a real manager and some real coaches to show these kids how its done as well. How about some guys from the 80's that knew how to win!

It sucks to see Baird go, but on the other hand I'm really excited about the move.
