One thing struck early on at the Grammys

A lot of people thought Kurt Kobain was so genius he had to die young to preserve his legacy.

Do people not ****ING KNOW ANYTHING about Dave Grohl.

Dude just carries on and on and as good or better then Nirvana itself ever was.

Or ****ING Paul McCartney, dude's what, 100 yo, part of the greatest youth band, greatest mature band, and in his own right one of the best solo rockers for continuing decades.

It's just weird, these geniuses die tragically young and it somehow had to be that way, and equal geniuses don't, and just give and give and give us more genius. And we still realize they are the best around, but don't recognize them in quite the same way as departed.

I'd seen her live before, so I kind of knew what to expect. My kids thought she was too weird, though.

She's, evidently, going for the whole spastically-possessed goth thing (which I didn't realize was a thing until watching her).

Well, she failed on the possessed goth look dressing like my grandma back in 1985. lol

It was just bad. The comments on youtube were pretty hilarious. Im not a fan of that song at all, but she does have a good voice in it, but live. I dunno. I need to see other videos of her live.

Saw them live before they blew up. They opened for AWOL. They played one hell of a set. About 6 weeks after that, radio stations started playing their music every 15 minutes.

Oh...and I have a huge man crush on Grohl. I've seen the Foo's 3 times. Plan to see them 2 or 3 times on their next tour

I'm probably one of the younger posters on this forum, i'm well aware of Macklemore. His music preaches about tolerance and acceptance. He's popular among lots of demographics.

If a young kid were to play Kanye West, ASAP, 2-Chainz and Macklemore for their parents, Macklemore would be much more likely to get his parents approval. Mackelmore generally sends a positive message in his music.

That's what i mean by "safe".

Yeah. I think he'd be more palatable than:

So I can **** the world for seventy-two hours

Tough assumption to make sui generis with all the 'whitewashing' of the grammy talk on the intertubes.

ie, everyone else is talking about how racist him getting all those awards were. How out of touch the Grammy committee is.

Yeah, i don't know about all that. I don't follow the Grammys like that.

No, i don't think he was picked out of racism or because he's white or anything stupid like that.

I just feel that the Grammys appeal to an older generation and the artists they pick are safer among the older crowd.

If my Grandparents HAD to pick a Rapper out of a lineup....Macklemore would most likely be that rapper. I'd guess that Macklemore has more women, children and parents that listen to him then oh say....ASAP Rocky.

In fairness, the context is probably lost on many of their children who listen to it as well and read it as a sincere embrace of the lyrics. Much like a bunch of my former students, when Colbert was really popular, who thought he was awesome because they agreed with him on everything.

Its frustrating to see this story being made about race. I think Kendrick Lamar deserved to win, but he didn't have the commercial success that Macklemore did and the more commercial album is going to win the award 9 times out of 10. Unfortunately this time it meant the white rapper winning in a sub-genre that is still considered to be "black" by the media even though it hasn't been for a long time.

So now race is being awkwardly injected where it doesn't belong by writers who probably didn't know who Macklemore was before "Thrift Shop" and have never listened to one of Kendrick Lamar's mixtapes. I'm tired of being lectured to by people who don't know what they are talking about.
