She's, evidently, going for the whole spastically-possessed goth thing (which I didn't realize was a thing until watching her).

It was just bad. The comments on youtube were pretty hilarious. Im not a fan of that song at all, but she does have a good voice in it, but live. I dunno. I need to see other videos of her live. |

Saw them live before they blew up. They opened for AWOL. They played one hell of a set. About 6 weeks after that, radio stations started playing their music every 15 minutes.

Oh...and I have a huge man crush on Grohl. I've seen the Foo's 3 times. Plan to see them 2 or 3 times on their next tour

Of course. I knew who Macklemore was back in 2010.

If a young kid were to play Kanye West, ASAP, 2-Chainz and Macklemore for their parents, Macklemore would be much more likely to get his parents approval. Mackelmore generally sends a positive message in his music. That's what i mean by "safe". |

ie, everyone else is talking about how racist him getting all those awards were. How out of touch the Grammy committee is.

No, i don't think he was picked out of racism or because he's white or anything stupid like that. I just feel that the Grammys appeal to an older generation and the artists they pick are safer among the older crowd. If my Grandparents HAD to pick a Rapper out of a lineup....Macklemore would most likely be that rapper. I'd guess that Macklemore has more women, children and parents that listen to him then oh say....ASAP Rocky. |

Yeah, context [to know that Kendrick is rapping from the perspective of an immature teenager with misguided priorities in that song] is hard for parents. Concept albums are hard for parents.

In fairness, the context is probably lost on many of their children who listen to it as well and read it as a sincere embrace of the lyrics. Much like a bunch of my former students, when Colbert was really popular, who thought he was awesome because they agreed with him on everything.

So now race is being awkwardly injected where it doesn't belong by writers who probably didn't know who Macklemore was before "Thrift Shop" and have never listened to one of Kendrick Lamar's mixtapes. I'm tired of being lectured to by people who don't know what they are talking about. |
