So the manager and GM have no accountability?

There is clearly a systemic problem with our hitting program here. Billy and Gordon are both established hitters in this league and are struggling. Infante and Aoki are underperforming historical norms. Hos, Moose, Perez, and Cain, we have no track record to fall back on. Esky just sucks.

My point is that when you have a systemic problem, you deal with the system and re-evaluate your players.

Might need to see Holland's trade value since we can't ever seem to put the game in his hands.

Billy is terrible right now. Probably the worst all around player on the whole team. There's no player worth less than him right now.

What kind of "program" do you think is in place for the vets? For the most part, the organizational leadership is around to make sure they get their work in and are healthy. Their performance is in their hands.

The GM is accountable if he consistently makes bad decisions over a long period of time.

When the entire lineup is not hitting, it is absolutely ridiculous to blame the manager.

That goes back to the flawed psychology of a lot of fans: they emotionally invest in a group of players, they dream of watching them succeed all winter, and then when things don't go well, its hard to imagine that maybe the players aren't as good as you may have thought. Someone must have sabotaged them. Its Ned's fault. How? I dunno... the lineup is wrong... or he told them to be too aggressive, or they are taking too many pitches, whatever, I'm emotionally invested in the players so I need to blame someone else.

Its the same reason why politics makes otherwise-smart people stupid: if "their side" looks bad, they ignore the facts and look for some other weird explanation.

Billy and Gordon not hitting is on them. You can't really blame a hitting coach for multi year vets not hitting.
