*** Official 2018 Royals Repository ***

The season is upon us, even if spring is not.

2018 MLB Draft Picks
#18
#33 - Compensation (Eric Hosmer)
#34 - Compensation (Lorenzo Cain)
#40 (Competitive Balance Round A)

018 Draft Names to Watch

RHP Kumar Rocker, N Oconnee HS, Georgia.
Spoiler!

OF Jarred Kelenic, Waukasha West HS, WI
Spoiler!

1B Triston Casas, American Heritage HS (FL).
Spoiler!

RHP Carter Stewart, Eau de Gallie HS (Ga).
Spoiler!

ANY Any, Any (Any). Any current top projected pick who slides for injury concerns. Includes current top prospect prospect SP Brady Singer, U of Florida.

Current Prospects to Watch:

OF Seuly Matias - Huge tools. Hit 2 HR in Lexington (A) season opener.

1B Nick Pratto - Top pick in 17 has advanced approach and good glove; needs to start tapping into power in first full year in minors. Also at Lexington.

OF Michael Gigliotti - Good defender in CF, good OBP skills, plus baserunner. Next mainstay in CF for KC, IMO. Advanced college bat also starting at Lexington.

OF Khalil Lee - Probably has highest upside in Royals' system. Could hit 30 HR in majors, could steal 30 bases. Plus defensive ability in RF. Nice test at Wilmington this year.

3B Emmanuel Rivera - Really nice approach and good contact skills. Power is still developing. Also getting a good test at Wilmington.

SP Foster Griffin - Made nice strides in 2017. Needs to continue to progress in 2018. Could be a lefty version of Jakob Junis (good breaking ball that he can really manipulate, OK fastball, good command).

1B Samir Duenez - Duenez still is intriguing, hoping for a step forward in his power production this year at Northwest Arkansas, which would turn him into a legit prospect.

Others to keep an eye on:
SP Gerson Garabito (Wilmington), OF Marten Gasparini (Lexington), C MJ Melendez (Lexington), RP Tyler Zuber (lexington), RP Richard Lovelady (Omaha), SP Dan Tillo (Lexington), SS Nicky Lopez (NWA), SP Scott Blewett (NWA), OF Brewer Hicklen (Idaho Falls),

In general, Lexington and Wilmington are the most interesting spots to watch. Nice depth and a lot of interesting pieces at both.

That means a top 25 prospect and a top 50 prospect are the asking price.
I assume he gets dealt at the winter meetings? I'm hoping someone meets that price or offers multiple under 100 prospects

I read that The Royals will lose 16 mil this season. Hard to imagine the class family not trimming the salary going forward.

Not anymore. The perceived value of prospects has grown significantly even in the last two years. Prospects are tremendously overvalued at this point, and it wouldn't surprise me if all you could get for him are two top 50-ish guys, which isn't enough.

Although relievers aren't worth as much and volatile, the Padres traded Brad Hand (who has two years of control+an option year) and Adam Cimber (5.5 years of control) for Mejia after he had slipped down to the 21st rated prospect at midseason. That's 8.5 years of control for a catcher with real concerns about staying behind the plate.

I think that's 100% why Whit wasn't traded at the deadline. Nobody wants to trade anything of value away anymore. That's why I was amazed Dayton even got what he did for Moustakas and Herrera. I was stunned he got two potential major league players for Moustakas. Especially one who was a top 100 prospect at the beginning of the year. I think even at the winter meetings he's going to probably have issues unloading Whit. It'll take matching up with a team who for some reason is really eager to get him. 10 years ago a team like the Dodgers and Yankees would unload their farm system for veterans. Now they refuse to get rid of any of their top guys.

Getting a team to pay the price the Royals would need to move Merrifield will absolutely be a challenge.

You have to find the partner that NEEDS him. And that might not exist.

But the price should also absolutely be in the neighborhood of what the Nats got for Eaton or what the Marlins got for Christian Yelich.

If prospect values are through the roof, just keep Whit.

Four years of control. I know if you’re going to suck, then go all out, but it really helps the rebuild process to have at least one sturdy, dependable vet who does it all.

Watching a bit of the first game of this Cubs/Brewers series, it's been a playoff type game. Was watching the 9th inning, Royals all over the field. Zobrist was at the plate, Jeffress on the mound, Moose and Cain on defense and Terrance Gore was pinch running for the Cubs.

It is nice to see Ohearn and Dozier look like they have seen a salad bar and weight room. Moose and Butler could ball but they looked like shit. y
