How big is the metro/city/town/whatever in which you live?
RustShack's Salina thread gives me the impression that a lot of people around here are somewhat against living in a "small town." That got me wondering about what kinds of places people on here live. So the question is, how big (in terms of population size) is the place where you live?
If you don't know, here are some places that could help. For those who consider yourself to live in a metro area: List of US Metro Areas For those who live in a "city" or "town": U.S. Census Population Finder |

Actually, pretty close to there. It's a great neighborhood.
It's funny: when I moved to Denver, one of my otherwise enlightened female coworkers warned me not to move near Cheesman Park because "lots of gay men sunbathe nude there". I live about eight blocks from that park and it's my preferred jogging area, and the only naked person I've ever seen there in 12 years was a gorgeous blonde woman who was doing some sort of semi-porn photo shoot at the Colonnade. My wife was with me, and informed me to move along.

Grew up in Lee's Summit(KC) and now live in Jacksonville #40 on the list. But I would prefer to live in a small town, preferably in the midwest. The small towns down here are 99% Jerry Springer guests.

It's supposedly a former Indian burial ground where the developers neglected to move the corpses before building new homes and a park on 'em.

I went with the easy answer of 125K+. Although, since I live in an unincorporated city with 13 villages, I'm not sure exactly what the size of my village is. Obviously there's a need out here for a poll taker to determine exact population counts of each of the villages.
I'll put in a good word for you with the village elders.

Everton, MO. Pop. 218. There is a gas station and post office here. The funeral home was blown over in a storm last fall. If I want to pick up some fast food I have to drive a minimum of 20 miles. After 10:00 PM tack on another 8 miles.
I refer to this place as the armpit of Missouri. And I can't prove it yet but I'm pretty sure that for every day I stay here this town is actually sucking 3 days off of my life. If it wasn't for the poor health of a relative that lives here this town could have kissed my ass goodbye a long time ago.

Born and raised in OP. Now I live in a farming community of about 1000. The largest metro area is Rochester, MN (pop 100K and home of the Mayo clinic) which is about 25 miles away and Austin, Minnesota (pop 30K plus it's the home of John Madden and SPAM) is about 20 miles away.
I've lived in this community for 10 years and really like it. I will always live in the country even if my worked moved me to the twin cities. I'd still live way outside of the metro. |
