They like my house! They like my house!

I don't remember if I posted something about this earlier, but if I did, what the heck. It won't hurt you to practice your reading skills.

When my wife and I bought our house a dozen years ago, it was a notable fixer-upper. We worked on it for 11 years doing a top-to-bottom rehab, and one of our goals the whole time was to get it nice enough to be on the local neighborhood home tour. The tour is sponsored by our local school as a fundraiser, and it's a notable event in our neighborhood. There are typically about 8 houses each year, and they write up a history of the houses and put them in brochures with pictures and everything else. Our neighborhood has a fair number of old silver-baron mansions, so there are a lot of homes of interest. (Ours is not a mansion, by the way. It's one of the middle-class homes that were built near the mansions so that people could say, "There are a fair number of old silver-baron mansions in our neighborhood.")

We applied for the tour this year, and I'm pleased to say that we're on it. Not only that, but one of the other houses is the governor's mansion, which is located about 10 blocks down the street from us, so it's a particularly cool year to be on it. I'm going to be snatching up those brochures like crazy in case we ever sell the house.

The wife and I have been busily snazzing up the house so it looks top-notch for the endless hordes who will be traipsing through on Sunday. As a perq, we traded out our two older TVs for big-screens, bought some new lamps and stuff, and today we got a new couch delivered, which I must say is a fabulous piece for the living room. Absolutely fabulous.

And the best part? The best part, you may ask? I got the old couch for my office at work. No more sitting at a desk. I can lounge. I can recline. I can lean to the left or the right. I can sit upright as if I were at a desk...BUT I'M ON A COUCH!

Life is good, I'm telling you. Life is good.

Nice find, regardless of the fact that it's a tad creepy that you know Rainman's list of things to do before he dies, that he posted almost 4 years ago.

Wow. I don't even remember posting that. You have the memory of a pachyderm.

Let's see...

1. I still need two continents.

2. Tentatively set for about 2012.

3. Check!

4. I simply can't get a flow in the first few chapters. It's the greatest novel idea in history, but the first few chapters don't draw the reader in.

5. F**k you, Wall Street. Go to hell in a bucket.

6. Check, if I die with any money. It's in my will.

7. Up to 22 when I make the next offer. I think I can do it with a few breaks.

8. I really need to get on this.

9. I still have no plan for this. Maybe if I survive an earthquake or something.

10. I keep pondering this, and would do it if I had time. No time right now, though.

Make sure everyone knows your counter tops came from Granite Depot and how happy you are with them.

I made my own list on that thread that I actually put some thought into. I bumped it twice as goals were checked off. So that thread is kind of a touchstone for my entire life.

So where do you stand right now?

And with that testimonial, that may be my finest thread ever. I don't think my human hunting or alien probing or B-17 threads were ever used as life barometers.

I have some pigeons up there. It used to annoy the cats, but they've learned not to stress about it.
