How do you propose M$ or Sony authenticate a digital copy of a game? It's not about being evil or being "silly little girls", lol... it's about making sure that the games you're about can only be played by you. Your friend can't play The Last of Us at the same time you're playing unless he has a disc in his PS3, right? Those "restrictions" work the same exact way as disc based games, except without the discs.

But they could have done it for just the digital download of the game. Surely there is a way to do family sharing with just a digital library. I also think they could allow people the choice of having the 24 hour checkin or not too.

I agree with the 2nd part one hundred percent. I'm not sure what you mean by your first sentence, but I think you're saying they should have only instituted the 24 hour check-in and all the DRM for digital copies only. If that's the case, I think they didn't want people gifting or lending a digital copy of a game they bought on a disc and then having the ability to disconnect their Xbox One from the internet, popping the disc in and playing said game.

NO not the disk copies. They need to separate the disk copy from the digital copy. Then they can do family sharing with only the digital copies. They have already said that the new change will require disk copies to have the disk loaded. Before a disk copy was treated just a like a digital copy.

Hence the 24 hour checkin. If you agree to the 24 hour checkin you can have family sharing for digital copies only.

Shit, if you agree to the 24 hour check-in, you should be able to have access to everything they had originally planned, not just the family share, I agree 110%.
