Is it time to go back to the 4-3?

With Hali coming to the end of his career along with DJ, if he comes back, DeVito is getting up there as well, isn't he(?), we seem to be losing the players we need to run a 3-4.

Can Dee Ford play DE in a 4-3?
Can Houston move to a 4-3 OLB ala Von Douche?
Poe on the inside of a 4-3 could be awesome, yes?

What say you all???

FTR, I prefer the 3-4 if you have the people who can play in it. But I don't think we do.

i think poe would be a beast in a 3 tech, but we don't have any 4-3 backers on the roster right now. DJ will do well at mike but they still need a serviceable sam & will. Houston would be wasted talent there IMO as his talents are best at rushing the passer, not in coverage.
and DT was good in coverage?

DT rarely ever dropped back. Heck I don't ever remember seeing him actually drop into coverage. But then again, Marty ran a 3-4 so not sure how that relates to houston as the sam in a 4-3?

This always makes me chuckle. It never fails. When we have a 4-3 we want a 3-4. When we have a 3-4 we want a 4-3.

Yeah, and KC ran a traditional 4-3 defense.

Maybe you should watch some old tape of where DT lined up.

i like the 4-3 better, but im going to say stick with the 3-4. We play nickle and dime over half the time anyways. Our entire defensive front is more suited to play in a 3-4. And a few guys have no place in a 4-3, allen bailey, and dee ford. And then theres sutton, has he ever ran a 4-3?

But nothing drastic needs to change, we have a really good defense that could be a great defense with only a few more solid players.

Defense isn't the problem with this team. Even with all the injuries, the defense has been better overall than last year.

the defensive style doesn't matter, either can be successful

It's about talent acquisition, development and coaching.

I brought this exact question up about 3 weeks ago in the draft forum...

With what KC has slated to return (under contract) a move to the 4-3 makes some sense. Now, if you can somehow retain Houston, restructure Hali, and hope to hell Ford progresses a metric shit ton, then you have legitimate reason to stick with the 3-4.

Take one of the NFLs best defenses...that boasts a top pass defense ranking even after facing a huge run of the leagues absolute best passers...and start over philosophy wise and lineup wise?

Real smooth.

We might as well move Charles to fullback while were at it.

He can legitimately pick up defenders in pass protection, and given that he only gets a handful of carries a game with Reid, it makes perfect sense!

I don't think it is something KC would disrupt either given that they'll likely franchise Houston if they cannot work out a deal. Its just a question given Reid's history with a 4-3. KC is better served sticking with what they have, but making the transition with the players KC has now isn't all that far fetched. They could go several routes, including going light at DE putting Houston and Ford with their hands in the dirt at DE, with Bailey and Poe starting inside. They could go with some other variations with Bailey at LDE, with say Poe and Walker starting inside. I'm actually surprised we haven't seen some hybrid 4-3 looks similar to what NE plays around with from this group.
