Chiefs live was comical yesterday

Mitch Holtus "I can't believe how the media flip-flops on Matt Cassel. I'll argue with anyone about that Matt can win us a playoff game here. He's a top 15 QB, and might be a top 10."

I wish someone would put the hammer down on Mitch's face.

Mitch is sniffing Godfather Pioli's balls in much the same fashion as Blob Gretz did under the King Carl regime. Since they paid Cassel all that $, they're going to trot him out there until they get their money's worth. Playoffs? PLAYOFFS????

If Holtus meant that Cassel is a top 15 QB in the AFC, then he may be right. Top 10 in the AFC is not right, however.

A lot of people on this board buy into the line of thinking that Weiss didn't have anything to do with Cassel's "success" in 2010 and that his decent play that year was a result of having a run game with Charles.

Assuming that is true, why aren't those people on the Cassel bandwagon in 2012? If he could put up 27 TD and 7 INTs with because of Charles/Moeaki/Bowe, shouldn't his numbers jump even higher with the extra addition of Hillis, Hudson, Winston, Boss, Breaston, Baldwin and improved play of Albert?

I'll bet a dollar that the offensive line looks not so good at pass blocking again. (not because they aren't good enough)

That's the bottomline.

He is being paid by them and obviously he will stand by and support them anyway he can. It's just the logical thing to do.

There are actually hordes of people who follow Mitch around the metro listening to his radio show play at various restaurants just hoping to catch a glimpse of the infamous mouthpiece and whichever 3rd stringer he convinced to come with him that week.

What does it say about Cassel that people go around saying that because (they think that) Cassel will now have a great offensive line and a great running game, they feel he can be adequate. That he is "good enough" to win a playoff game.

Matt Schaub, Tim Tebow, Mark Sanchez, Tony Romo... Justa handful of players who were carried by the rest of their team kicking and screaming into playoff wins.

What any idiot knows is that these kinds of QBs might steal a wild card game, but they lose the next game to the Rodgers, Manning, Brady, Brees et al.

Cassel in a perfect situation being able to sot down and shut up, and not scuttle a wild card win with an interception on a screen pass has nothing to do with winning a super bowl. If we knew he would win the next five wild card games I wouldn't give a rip because he will never take a team anywhere. He's a poor man's Mark Sanchez

That line of thinking is correct.

He may very well replicate 2010.

He also isn't good enough to perform at that level in the post season.

Because his ceiling is 1 and done in the playoffs. That's not good enough.

My take on Cassel is this: He's not a pussy like Grbac, playing after surgery in St. Louis two years ago proved that. He's smarter than Bono. But he's not beloved by his team mates like DeBerg and Trent Green were. His arm is not strong enough to throw an accurate long ball, and he has no ability to improvise on the run. None. Zero. If his primary guy is covered, he goes check down, no matter what. He is content with throwing a five yard pass on third and eight, and he'll do it every single time his primary is covered. He would make a fine backup QB for any NFL team, but he just doesn't have the ingredients to be a championship QB. It's the same old story in KC.

It's a far different NFL than the one that was played in 1998 and 1999.

The Giants were DEAD LAST in rushing last year and won a SB.

You don't need a dominant run game if you have a QB worth a lick.

Josh Looney's only job is with the Chiefs and he was FAR less complimentary of Cassel than Mitch.

You can toe the company line, but when you say "I'll battle anyone who criticizes the Chiefs QB position", it's far beyond the company line.

I agree completely with Mitch and don't see anything wrong with that statement at all.

Definitely a top 10 QB.
