The case for Owen Schmitt.
He's the fiery, powerful FB out of West Virginia.

He's easily the best FB in his class this year, and he might even be round 3 material.

He might be worth a shot, if you look at this year's Pro Bowl:

AFC's starter: LaDanian Tomlinson

NFC's starter: Adrian Peterson

And who're the starting FBs for both squads? Lorenzo Neal and Tony Richardson.

It's not coincidence, folks. An elite FB can elevate the play of your RB.

Ummm but Lorenzo Neal is injured right? And yet LT and Darren Sproles ran for 100 yards and 2 TDs a piece.

I don't want to sound anti Schmitt because I think we need a FB but if he's 3rd round material then you let some other team take him.

FB is just not an impact position IMO that you draft high. 5th or lower? Fine. FA? Even better.

Those two RBs you mentioned also have pretty good O-lines ahead of them also.

Schmitt's great and I wouldn't mind taking him, but I wouldn't say he's easily the best of the FB crop. Maybe in a normal year, but not in this class.

With gameplan this year and our line it's more important to us than others. I do agree with suds79, I wouldn't want to spend a 3rd on one though.

A FB no matter how good, is a role player...a guy who can likely be easily replaced and interchanged.
