Jared Allen's stats for 08

FWIW, I saw the Vikes play the Ravens last week and saw a very slow unmotivated Allen with only 2 decent plays that were against the 2nd team O out of about 5 series of plays. He got his $$$$ and hopefully we got the Vikes best picks.:

13-16 sacks? PB year
9-12 sacks? good year
5-8 sacks? mediocre
0-5 sacks? takes the $$ and gets hurt

What do guess

Nah - people compete for a variety of reasons. Allen competes because he loves the attention not the money. I don't think I've ever heard anybody question his motor before. He's not athletically superior in NFL terms, he's relentless and comes every down - which is why he's found success in the league and was overlooked in the draft - IMO.

I know that his results fell off later in games but I still never doubted his effort. When you figure that a quality DE is going to get 10-14 sacks in a 16 game season, you can't whine too much when they all come in the early stages of games.

I'd go further than that Phil. A guy who gets 14 sacks is usually 1st team PB and a candidate for NFL defensive MVP. Plus a guy will attract a lot of double teams by the 4th period if he's been blowing up the LOS early.

I don't know why anyone would not want Dorsey and JA on the same Chiefs squad. Sure would help that youthful secondary.

Its going to take a few years. Allen is in his prime and more than likely will play at a high level this year.

WHo was he traded for basically?? Albert, Charles and Dejaun Morgan?? Obviously it will take a few years to see what the full impact will be.

Everything ive read before said that he as had character issues since high school. Thats why he ended up in a small college and then got overlooked in the draft.

Opposing teams would do well by double-teaming Allen or having the QB bootleg away from him on most occasions in the 1st half. JA simply loses his legs/burst and the OT has his moves figured out in the 2nd half.

He was on his contract year last year. Lots of players play better then, I do not expect him to be as good as last year.
