The "owner mode" stuff from years ago was just about the dumbest aspect of Madden ever. Why the hell do I care about concession stand prices or stadium upgrades, if I can't USE those features when I play the game.

To my mind, the single biggest thing they could do to make this game better would be to upgrade the sounds of the game. It should sound like really being there, down to the minute details.

I want to hear stadium specific EVERYTHING. The atmosphere of a real NFL game is incredible, and the game isn't even close to recreating that. Instead, they try to recreate the sound of a television broadcast (which even in real life is pretty dull) and the game sounds worse (much worse, actually) than television.

The second thing they could do is make the TIMING of the game more like a real NFL game. Now, nobody wants to sit through 3 hours of a single game. But lets face it... MLB The Show has nine full innings, with three outs per inning, and we still play that! No more "five minute quarters." where you play a full game, and your offense only runs 30 plays, but your QB has 3 TD passes, and your RB is over 100 yards. I'm sorry, that's silly. The game has been tweaked for years to make it so final game stats look realistic, and season stats are realistic, but the average yards per play has to be WAY over the top, in order to get to those numbers on 1/3rd the amount of play time. All games in Madden should have 15 minute quarters, with an accelerated clock feature. THEN, adjust the difficulty so that the results of each play are realistic. Not just the overall stats.

Starting in 2008 ish, I always played 15 min quarters with Accelerated clocks. I would usually use up just about all the play clock as well with motions, and things like that just to keep the score and stats down, and I played on all madden difficulty. I never understood the infatuation with people playing with 5 min quarters. I didn't need to get through a season in a week though. I was okay. I just wish there was more of a true Progression system in the game so that I could make players who make plays better.

I play with about 7 or 8 minute quarters. The stats I get in those games are pretty realistic.

Really? How? Seems to me that in order to be "realistic" you're either running 50-70 plays on offense but only using 10 seconds of the play clock every snap, or you're running 25-35 plays a game and getting twice the usual results. Neither, to my mind is realistic. What you wind up doing is tweaking sliders over and over again to make the defense just crappy enough to get realistic scores and yardage stats in half the plays. Crappy defense does not a fun game make, imo.

I want realistic football. I want gap shooting. I want to take advantage of matchups where I think my guy will beat their guy and exploit weaknesses in formations. I want it to be TOUGH to score 20 points or more for BOTH teams. In Madden, I usually can get make the game pretty damn tough if I bump sliders up, but then MY defense gets creamed when the computer QB becomes Steve Young and Joe Montana's love child. I want a pass rush that I have to scheme around, and I want my opponent to do the same.

The current game is WAY too menu deep and WAY too game shallow.

Truth. I have always loved Madden and it usually annoys me when people complain about it every year, but this year's version was just unplayable. I played three games in my franchise and then sold it because I couldn't handle the horrid defense anymore. I was just playing with standard settings and even adjusted the tackling sliders, and I couldn't stop anyone on defense. In one game, I gave up 400+ rushing yards and 7 TDs to LeSean McCoy. Most of those TDs were 50+ yards. I would hit him at the line of scrimmage, he'd keep going and drag four defenders with him for 8 or 9 yards every play. Just a remarkably frustrating experience, especially when you're playing with the best defense in the NFL.

Offseason is one of my favorite parts of the game (when it's done well, which I guess is rarely) so I'd rather not have seasons take forever. I like gradually building my own team with my own pieces.

I would usually try to trade away pieces at the very start that I had no interest in, and bring in guys that I could develop over the long term. And then lock them up. I enjoy offseason as well.

I remember trading away all the shitty overrated (on Madden anyway) Chiefs players I hated for as many draft picks as I could get. Very cathartic.

For example, trading Cassel in 09 when he was like 89 overall or some insane bullshit, getting tons of great offensive weapons, and using them to turn Thigpen into the 3-time MVP he was always meant to be.
