Help me find a new bank

I signed up with Bank of Blue Valley several years ago because they had an interest paying checking account of like 3.65% (per account up to $25k each) plus a nice rewards program. I maxed outaccounts for my wife and myself, and everything was great for a couple of years.

Since then, the interest rate has dwindled down to nothing, and they changed their rewards program. Changing the rewards program came as a surprise to me when I just tried to book my vacation only to find out that I no longer have 60,000 points with the old program (enough to redeem for about $1,200 worth of hotel stays. As of 2015, I have no points there. I do, however, have 50 points with the new vendor (enough for a double cheeseburger at McDonalds). They seem to think that burying a sentence on my electronic statement back in September was all the notification anyone should need, so there's that...

So **** those guys. I need a new bank. Anyone love/hate your bank? Where should I move to (needs to have locations in JoCo).

TIA

Are credit unions any better? I've used two banks my entire life...UMB and BoBV. I used to love BoBV, but every deal keeps changing, and it's been to my detriment 100% of the time.

I use Chase. It's easy to avoid fees and they're everywhere.

ally.com has been good to me. High Rate of returns. You get out what you sow though. If you don't put much in you won't get much out. Also avoid credit cards. The borrower is always the slave to the master.

Get yourself a Charles schwab checking account. They reimburse all ATM fees at the end of the month. Don't worry too much about interest rates in these, checking account interest rates are going to be hot dog shit anyway. Pooling away money in one is not the best way to make your money work. If you travel a decent amount the ATM fee thing might be nice, if you use them more another way search for features like that.

Also, if you have a great credit union I strongly consider taking a look at one of those. They are almost always going to treat you better than a bank.

No bank can give you decent returns right now. Stocks and real estate is the way to go. I can pay 8% on your money but I need large chunks of $ at a time. 6 months hold.

I'll take that double cheeseburger if you don't want it.

I wasn't really aware of rewards programs at banks. I didn't think they gave away toasters and such anymore. Seems like now it is more about avoiding fees.

If you carry a balance that large, no bank is going to charge you any fees.
I chose Bank of America just because they are everywhere and I thought it would be more convenient. It does seem like they have a bunch of little "reward" programs where someone could make a few dollars but I've never bothered with any of them. I think "few" dollars is the key word, but I really haven't paid much attention.
