If you're okay with a used tab of any type, look at Craigslist in your area. I picked up an 8 month old iPad(1)64g with wifi for $200. Like you, I just canot pay apple's price for their product. It's been perfect for me and the price was right.

There are bargains out there if you're okay with the secondary market.
