Who is the nicest pro athlete you have ever met.

I met Cal Ripken Jr a few years ago and he was totally cool.

Rick Sutcliffe - great to party with

Neil Smith - great to talk about anything but football (once you learn the Neilbonics)

Derrick Thomas - Him and Neil were great guys to be around on Mondays after games down at Perry Foster's old place... never once talked football with him...

Tommy Morrison (boxer)...but he was nice to me in a strange way.

One year down at Padre Island on spring break, Tommy Gunn and his buddy stole some girls from us at a bar (star-struck sluts). A few years later he went public that he had AIDS...so I like to think that he saved me from AIDS that night. What a nice guy.

I met Christian Okoye a long time ago, at a signing and he was really nice. I realize he was huge, but to a kid in the 5th or 6th grade, Okoye looked like a freakin' mountain. He was very nice, I asked him questions kids would ask like if it hurt when he got tackled ("only a little") and if he was used to the cold, since it was cold outside that day (said he "could never get used to the cold here").

I dunno, I guess he didn't do anything out of the ordinary, but he was very nice, indulged the questions of a starstruck little kid, smiling and laughing the whole time. Seemed like a great guy.

Funny, I met Okoye about 8 years ago. We were at a bar and I bought him a drink (he was in town for some kids fest). He started out pretty nice, but it didn't take long for me to realize he was an asshole. Apparently he thought he was pretty big sh*t in little 'ol Des Moines, IA.

Okoye's one of the few I've met. He was very cool.

Sammy Davis, CB, Chargers. He and my best friend had a few classes together at A&M and hit it off. One weekend we had a barbecue and Sammy came out. We sat on the front porch and talked for a couple of hours. Met him again later, ate lunch at a bar and grill the local sports show was broadcasting out of (and he appeared on) and he was every bit as cool that time as the first. Just a really nice, really humble guy.

My Wife and I were introduced to Donnie Edwards while he was still a Chief. Donnie used to date a friend from works cousin. We met him after a game in San Diego before they left the stadium. He spent quite a bit of time talking to my wife and I. He then went to visit his Grandfather and then came back to talk to us again just before boarding the bus.

He was really a nice guy.

Well, I still root for Blaylock when he is in uniform, but any pro athlete should tip. It has been suggested to me that maybe he doesn't even know that he should tip. Maybe.

I have been stiffed by Neil Smith, but I have also been tipped pretty good by Neil. When I was a kid, Steve Balboni tipped me $20 on a $10 order. Back then I didn't care if I got tipped at all, 'cause we got cash for our miles.

Now that I have had real jobs, been downsized twice, and went back to college, it means more to me. (and to my higher education fund)
