No McDonalds? YOU ARE AN UNFIT PARENT!

Man deemed ‘unfit parent’ after refusing son McDonald’s
http://tinyurl.com/kxv8eed

A man is suing a court-appointed psychologist who deemed him an unfit parent after he refused to take his kid to the Holy Grail of the American obesity epidemic: McDonald’s. Of all of the reasons to potentially lose visitation rights with your kid, this has to be the cheesiest. Actually, make mine a double cheesiest.

As The New York Post reports, “Attorney David Schorr slapped a court-appointed shrink with a defamation lawsuit for telling the judge deciding a custody battle with his estranged wife that he was an unfit parent — for refusing to take his son to the fast food joint for dinner.” This is America, after all: If there’s one freedom no one can take away, it’s a four-year-old’s right to eat a 3,000-calorie meal.

The not-so-Happy Meal began when Schorr wanted to take his kid to a restaurant called Corner Cafe for dinner. “But the boy threw a temper tantrum and demanded McDonald’s. So he gave his son an ultimatum: dinner anywhere other than McDonald’s — or no dinner,” according to the New York Post. The child chose no dinner.

Unfortunately, court psychologist Mary Schiller had a problem with this. Because as any good psychologist knows, if there’s one way to reinforce good behavior in a child, it’s to give him whatever he wants as long as he screams about it.

After the incident, the mother immediately took the child to McDonald’s. It’s the oldest trick in the book: if Dad says no, just ask Mom.

Perhaps it’s a sad testimony to how much McDonald’s is ingrained in a 4-year-old’s perception of the world. If nothing else, at least McDonald’s marketing team deserves a raise.

Congratulations for making it unacceptable for people to refuse to give greasy, corporate fast food to kids.

Now quick, someone call Child Protective Services! The neighbor’s kid was just refused a second helping of mashed potatoes at KFC!

What kid eats two double cheeseburgers with his meal and has a large ice cream desert?

If you let the kid eat like that anywhere he's going to be a fatass.

It sounds like the parent was said to be unfit because he denied the child a meal, not because of where the meal he requested was from.

How big a bitch is the wife? Sounds like the Dad was just trying to do the right thing. We don't know the entire history with the couple, but I'll bet it's not pretty.

This. A little more detail in the NY. Post

http://nypost.com/2013/11/07/psychol...cdonalds-suit/

But the boy threw a temper tantrum and demanded McDonald’s. So he gave his son an ultimatum: dinner anywhere other than McDonald’s — or no dinner.
“The child, stubborn as a mule, chose the ‘no dinner’ option,” the disgruntled dad says in the suit.
“It was just a standoff. I’m kicking myself mightily,” Schorr said.
“I wish I had taken him to McDonalds, but you get nervous about rewarding bad behavior. I was concerned. I think it was a 1950s equivalent of sending your child to bed without dinner. That’s maybe the worst thing you can say about it,” he said.
Adding insult to injury, he said: “My wife immediately took him to McDonalds.”
Upon reflection, Schorr said he should have remembered that mother knows best.
“The first thing I did was I questioned myself,” he recalled.
“Had I done something wrong? I did what any 43-year-old Jewish man would do — I told my mother. I said, ‘My God, did I do something wrong here?’
“Even my mother, the strictest mother in the world, said, ‘Why didn’t you just take him to McDonalds? What were you thinking? You know that this is a divorce situation.’”

Before dropping his son off at his wife’s E. 84th Street building, Schorr says he tried to make light of the situation by horsing around with him and trying one last time to change his mind about dinner.
But the son apparently tattled on his dad and his wife flipped out and called the shrink, according to the suit.
Schorr claims that Dr. Schiller only interviewed the child and his mother and never asked for his side of the story before telling the court she was gravely concerned about Schorr’s parenting.
Bari Yunis Schorr sued her husband for a divorce in 2011, just four years after they married in a lavish ceremony at the St. Regis Hotel in Manhattan.
She recently filed motions asking the judge to punish her husband for flouting court orders and for a judgment on nonpayment of child support.
Her attorney, Louis I. Newman, declined to comment on the McDonald’s matter.
“It’s a litigation between Mr. Schorr and Mrs. Schiller,” Newman said.
In the past two and a half years that he has had partial custody of his son their time together “has run smoothly without incident” save a scraped knee, Schorr insists in the suit.

It's interesting how much fast food chains are villianized like they force people to go there. They're called "fast food chains" not "everyday food chains". Taking kids or going to one yourself EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE shouldn't be considered toxic.

There was a McDonalds near my house that had the indoor tunnels and slides and my son loved to go to; took him once every couple of weeks. The thing I noticed was that most of these kids weren't even eating their food; they were playing most of the time and the parents had to beg them to eat their food...and few, including my boy, didn't even come close to finishing (which is how I packed on a few pounds).

McDonalds and the others only want one thing from you and your kid...and that's money. They not trying to make them little fatties. Could they make their menu be healthier? Sure...but when they have, those healthier items don't do so well...and who's fault is that?

He should have made the kid a burger, baked some fries, and grabbed a carbonated apple juice. Then go by the local dollar store together to pick out a crappy toy.
